We just finished sending in the last of the waiver paperwork (the doctor's report) for my son last week and this morning he called to tell me the recruiters are taking him up to Nashville today to take the ASVAB and putting him in a hotel tonight.  First thing tomorrow morning he goes to MEPS.

Is it possible that he will be sworn in tomorrow?  Also, will they give us the date he ships out to boot camp right away or will it be another period of "hurry up and wait?"  Of course this is all contingent on the physical going okay, but I'm sure it will. Thanks!

My son went up last night and is doing MEPS today.  The wait is killing me.  I have no idea what is going on and he is not answering my text.

Hope all goes well.

Thanks!  He just texted me what hotel he's staying at, but when I asked if he'd taken the ASVAB yet, he didn't respond.  They must be hurrying around.  Hopefully I can speak to him on the phone tonight.  Oddly, his hotel isn't far from my work, since I work in Nashville.

I hope your son does great!

They may swear him in, but the final swearing in will be before shipping out. Depending on the job he qualifies for, he will get a date no longer than a year to ship out. However, there are opportunities along the way to possibly ship out sooner.

I'd suggest waiting until he gets home to explain it all. There's a lot of info to go over.

I'm so excited.  I just heard back from him and he scored a 93 AFQT!!!  He's thrilled and happy and so am I!

Congrats to him. What is his preference in ratings?

I'm not sure here at the outset.  I know his ultimate preference is law enforcement (Master at Arms)

Well, he's finished with MEPS, but we still don't have an answer about whether he's getting in or not.  Apparently, he has to wait on the results of the drug test and HIV test to see if he gets the waiver.  So, he and the recruiter are on the way back home.  I will be so glad when we just get a final answer one way or another, because the stress from all this back and forth is really taking a toll.  I thought we'd have an answer today, but it's more "hurry up and wait" instead.

At MEPS, he should have (or should I say they should have) "helped him" select a rating (job). He also should have picked out a backup. I don't know if they do this with everyone, but my son picked a critical and non critical job.

They didn't do this with him yet because his medical waiver hasn't been approved.  Until he gets that approval, they won't go any further.

My son was sworn in (YAY!!) yesterday and has his ship date.  So happy and relieved that he got the waiver and everything turned out great! Thanks to everyone who replied on my other thread (which I'm sorry I had to delete).  :)

Why did you have to delete it?

I didn't "have" to delete it (poor choice of words) but I chose to delete it because of comments from someone who was being unhelpful and unsupportive.
