My son graduates the day before Thanksgiving, I hope. I made reservations for flight and hotel and still looking for a place to take my son for Thanksgiving dinner close to the base in Great Lakes. I thought since graduation is so close to Thanksgiving that it would be easy to find a place to celebrate as a family. I'm at a point now that aTaco Bell would be fine. Just in case does anyone know of place around the base?

My vote goes to Illinois Beach Resort in Zion. Had my HS senior banquet there.
There are lots of restaurants nearby, and several will be open Thanksgiving Day, I'm sure. Last time we were up there, we found a nice little Hibachi place that wasn't busy. I'm not sure if that would make a good Thanksgiving dinner, but he probably won't care what type of food it is, as long as you are together!
The nearby towns to Naval Station Great Lakes are Lake Forest, Libertyville and Gurnee, Illinois. Google restaurants in these towns. There are some very good restaurants in these areas.
The Lakehouse in Lake Bluff is a great restaurant that is offering a great traditional Thanksgiving Buffet. The food is wonderful and the service friendly and quick. My husband is stationed at great lakes and we often take people here from out of town. It's close to the base and has a nice family atmosphere that would be perfect for celebrating Thanksgiving!

Hello. My son also graduates on 11/26. We made reservations at Sullivan's Steakhouse in Lincolnshire, IL. They have a Prix-Fixe menu on Thanksgiving $39 per person. Check out their website. Hope this helps. What Ship and Division is your son in? Mine is in Ship 12 Div 019.
