They will be in Afghanistan until Feb 2011 and it will be a continuing need.

Conditions/Requests : Conditions- Very dusty and smells like you know what!
Electricity- Some how lucky to have good 'ol 110V.
We live in fabricated metal buildings packed in tight.
Have small fridge/freezers, very few microwaves around.

I rep for our unit- 3 Naval Construction Regiment from Marietta, Ga.
Most of us are all from predominately southeast, then east coast with a
couple sprinkled in from as far as California.

We are not picky by any means, actually we are in awe of those willing
to support us. What ever people are willing to send we apprecaite
goodies, snacks, coffee and anything else.

We also are adopting the wounded warriors that come through our base for medical care, they could
use way more! They come here with only what is on their backs during
battle. Sometimes loosing some of that.

Socks, towels, shower shoes, sheets would be a great way to make them comfortable again while they
heal before returning to the fight. Also magazines and videos or any
other form of entertainment. If you can help them first they have a
greater need, spread the word, send it to me as point of contact and I
will guarantee swift delivery to their bedsides...

I will provide the address,  off list, to anyone who needs it.

please send me the address
Send me the address and I will mail a box of pcs by the end of the week. also a box of toiletries too.
What kind of socks are needed? And what kind of sheets? Hugs, k.
Lyn, a couple of questions:

1. how many in the actual unit?

2. the wounded -are they just marines or all? is this a triage unit, a hospital etc?

3. twin sheets?

4. dark tube socks?
I have not been able to find out how many in the actual unit. They took over looking out for the Marines from a group that just left. They are a unit of Seabees. I think we did some Seabees a while ago, so that would be the size of the unit. I just know that they will give the pcs to the wounded first, so if we send a bunch and continue to send a few each month then the Seabees will get them also.

The wounded seem to be only Marines. Not that only wounded Marines are sent to Kandahar air field, but these guys have adopted only the stranded Marines. So, we are adopted sailors who have adopted marines. The Seabees built them a building and got them a DVD player, before that they were just sitting around with nothing to do.

I think they are looking for white socks and new twin sized sheets. The sheets that I sent were new, but I had taken them out of the packaging, so I imagine if they are in very good condition the used ones would be OK. Just remember these guys need stuff that doesn't look like hand me downs.
I know that MAS is sending some stuff, like blankets and magazines. So, are pillowcases will be added to what they send.
When you get a chance, please send me the address, ok? I'll start on a box and some pcs. Thanks!
Last time I checked they did not need toiletries. I think some one sent them a whole bunch. I think they are in greater need of magazines and things for the Marines to read and do. A lot of these guys have traumatic brain injury, so things that keep them thinking are a great idea.
Lyn, I have some things ready to go like socks and under shirts. Would you please email the address to me.
thanks
this is great info Lyn. I will send 2 boxes of pcs this weekend then if they don't need toiletries. have a few magazines too.

off to work for phase 2 of my job. today we are baking oatmeal cookies. I love baking with the kids!
Sue, when you send your box, could you put a note in it, with my name, e-mail and address. Let him know that I will be the contact person for HAE. My box won't get mailed out until the middle of next week, so he will get your box first. Thanks.
Something for us to think about.... They have mentioned that things smell really bad over there. Anyone got any ideas of what we can do about that? I'm thinking of spraying my pillowcases with Fabreeze???
Lyn, in one of the thank you notes, the recipient commented about how good the pillowcases smelled. Everyone was sniffing them. I wondered what was used to make them smell so good. I have always been careful because my husband gets sneezing fits with many odors. I think something light and used with care would be great.
