Since we are now able to send packages, wouldn't it be great if we shared our creative ideas of what we intend to send to our sailors?

My daughter is newly stationed at Goose Creek. I'm glad I found this site. My navigating skills around this area are rough. Any suggestions about how to communicate more efficiently?

nanny2, I'm so glad you found us, even if it was late in the game. ((hugs)) to you. My Navy son is my youngest, as well. He keeps telling me now, "Mom, you don't have to worry now, I will be just fine". I have 3 children that went off to college and BC was totally different. Anyone who thinks that it is anywhere near the same thing has no idea. I'm looking forward to getting to know you.
Ladies, please say prayers that I get through tonight without having a breakdown. This is my very first New Year's Eve all alone. I have always had people around me. With the hubby on the east coast (I'm in the southwest) and 5 adult kids now, I don't even know how to begin to enjoy "me time." I'm planning to have a glass of wine and watch some good movies tonight. :)
oops, that was suppose to say "I have NO words of Wisdom!" below!
Oh, and I forgot...I just got back from a 3.5 hr visit to the Dr. with my other 'baby' Noah!! He has Bronchitis and a Sinus Infection for starters...his white blood count is very high so the Dr. said he definitely is fighting the 'crud!' (Thanks Boot Camp)! :( :( ! SO GLAD My E is feeling better in FL.

Cindy
Elizabeth...HUGS first of all! And YES, I was exactly like you, a emotional mess! I have words of wisdom, EXCEPT YOU ARE NOT READY FOR THE COOCOOO's Nest :) your girlfriend on the other hand may be ;o)! They (non military) people just don't get it...my girlfriend actually told me when I was discussing with her how sad I was while crying...the day E left for "A school" "Wake up, your not in Kansas anymore!" (nice huh), and that hurt deeply too, and still have not talked to that 'friend' again, not sure how to approach her again! Its all part of the process I think...crying is good sometimes ;o)!! My E was my first baby...and first to leave home too. BUT girlfriend, I am hear to tell you... hope is in the air, "A School" is SO MUCH better than boot camp...Texting, talking, laughing on a regular basis. My E said "A school is a lot like college, with discipline!" He loves it! They can get care packages...and happy to get them! They play Video Games and shop :)! Perhaps because it has been lighter these last two weeks due to the Holidays...and once classes start that may change, but they can contact you much more often...and they will! So, Hug him now...cry at will, and come to this site often :o) :o)!! I do...this is my therapy, and the next time your friend asks 'are you talking to anyone about this?" You smile a BIG SMILE...and Say with pride..."Yes I am, and we all cry sometimes!" SMILE Elizabeth! ((HUGS))! Hope this helped!
Happy New Year to you...and all you wonderful ladies I am so proud to call my friends!
Cindy
Elizabeth, ((hugs)) to you. Don't worry about what your friend said, I'm assuming that this friend does not have a child in the military? If she did, she never would have said that to you. She would have understood and hugged you, like we do. ((hugs)) I was a mess before A left last Sunday. I actually started the crying process a couple of days before he left, just thinking about him leaving. I do have to tell you though, that I have probably had more meaningful conversations with him, since he has left, than I did when he lived here. We have been skyping, texting and having phone calls every single day. It is so wonderful to see his beautiful face every day, even if it in on a computer screen. He even had his roommate get on Skype to meet me. T will want to you know every aspect of his new life and will be sure to keep in touch frequently. It is a little easier with the communication now. I still miss A very much, but knowing that I can talk to him every day makes it not hurt as much. You can do this, Elizabeth. We are here to help you. Please remember that we all know what you are feeling and, even though, it hurts, there are people who do understand. All you have to do is come to us and we will be there to laugh and cry with you. ((Hugs))
Penny, your tears are welcome here. ((hugs)) We all love you. Happy New Year and safe travels tomorrow.
Happy New Year to all of you...Ns last night and he and his brother and friends are going to a First Night Celebration and then it is up early to head to Groton. Trying so hard to keep emotions in check! Even though I am so happy that we will be able to contact them frequently while in BESS and A-school, I can't help thinking that this is really it! ...oh darn there goes my mascara! Well ladies, if I am going to look even somewhat presentable for my gathering with friends, I better say goodnight...I always end up in tears on here! hahaha! :)
Happy New Year! Think of me driving to and from Groton tomorrow!
Cheers! :)
Penny
