My daughter is newly stationed at Goose Creek. I'm glad I found this site. My navigating skills around this area are rough. Any suggestions about how to communicate more efficiently?

Elizabeth, Oh I can imagine the stress of that drive.  ((hugs))  How dare AT&T!  lol  I'm sorry you didn't make it to the M&G

Btw, I have a true story about a canoeing experience and a Disney resort .  My family went to the Disney Hilton Head, SC resort about 7 years and my youngest two kids and husband decided to do a canoeing trip.  Before they headed out, there looked to be a storm coming off the ocean and it appeared to be heading towards the swampy area where they were canoeing.  We were concerned about it and told the guide who told us that she had checked the weather and it was supposed to pass in the other direction.  Hey, it was Disney, so we had to have confidence and figure she knew what she was doing right? All of the canoes were out for about 5 minutes and a huge squall hit, with hail, 50 mile an hour horrible winds, rain, lightening, etc.  My parents and I were watching in horror from the pier as 12 canoes were stuck out there in this storm. There were oyster beds all along the swamp wall and they were told by the guide, before hand, emphatically not to touch them because they are razor sharp.  My husband was in a canoe with A, (who was 11 at the time) and my daughter was in a canoe with the guide.  My husband and A's canoe capsized, but thank goodness he upped it right away.  My daughter (who was 12, at the time) and the guide actually got out of their canoe and got in a "metal" boat that was sitting in the swamp.  *Yikes*   I had to run to the resort and tell them that 12 canoes were caught in the squall.  They had to get a boat out there to pick up about 25 people and it took about 5 trips.  My family was fine, thank God, but in almost every other canoe people had cuts, that required an emergency room visit, because they had touched the oyster beds.  One guy was a surgeon and had to have surgery on his hand.  We saw them later and he said he would be fine, thank goodness.  Believe it or not, everyone was highly impressed with how Disney handled everything.  We are (and were at the time) members of the Disney Vacation Club, which is what that resort is.  Some of the people in the canoes, who were not members, actually did join it later because Disney treated them so well.  The guide was promptly fired because they said she should have known not to go out and she also did not have a walkie talkie or cell phone onboard with her.  Not to mention the fact that she should never have taken my daughter into the metal boat, during a lightening storm.  So, I would say that Disney World is probably much safer, but I'm not sure about Disney Hilton Head.  lol  We love it there anyway!  Apparently, nothing like that had ever happened before and has not ever happened again, as of last summer when we were there.

Betsy - I didn't go to the PIR 12/22 M&G, we got in to Milwaukee evening of the 21st and drove to GL (in the really foggy fog, haha), I was exhausted and stressed by the time we got to GL.  Not to mention I didn't get the "I'm a Sailor" call until our plane hit the runway in Milwaukee...I cheated a little and had my cell phone on the last 45 minutes of our flight....I forgot to call AT&T when we got back to complain that I was unable to get cell service 30,000 feet in the air, gosh don't they know I had a really important call to receive....just kidding.

Susan - tell "D" that alligators are not fun canoeing or tubing down a river, if I'm not mistaken he is in FL, being stuck on a river in the summer when our "out of the blue" lightning storms suddenly hit are scarey...tell him Disney is way safer...haha.

Nancy - i would love to see your pictures from the 12/22 M&G and anyone else that may have pictures

Salma - the M&G photos from 12/17 were on Facebook, I have a N4M friend who is also a Facebook friend, sorry maybe I shouldn't have said anything but I wanted all my N4M friends to know that they are all very special and the pictures were absolutely beautiful

The "boxer" stories are hiliarious, my son came back to our room after graduation and said I am throwing these tidie whities away they are awful.  He said he wore his PT shorts as "boxer" during BC, sometimes after laundry was done some of the guy's tidie whities went missing so they didn't have much choice.

I meet a young man at PIR 12/22 from Div 906 his initials are E.L., he said his mom is on N4Ms, (he and my son were friends in the same Div) he is the nicest guy and because he was standing post where I was sitting I got to talk to him about BC, the Div and the PIR ceremony, anyway I understand that his family was not able to go to PIR, I have a picture of him and would like to pass it along to his family, if this is your son please send me a private message and I will get the picture to you.

Susan & Wendi, we went to the student NEX on base and the NEX off base in GL.  I thought some of the prices were really good, but others seemed to be high, especially in electronics.

Nancy, my son asked me send him more undies and the one's that he had already were black.  He's been wearing them.

Sparkle, ((hugs)) I hope everything is ok.,

Penny, my ((hugs)) to you on your travels

I am ROLLING LOL regarding the Boxer stories...OMG! Thanks ladies!!

"E" wanted me to bring Boxers to PIR...we made it to Burger King after PIR and he wanted to change out of the "tighty whities" he called them, from BC...HE COULDN'T STAND ONE MORE MINUTE IN THEM LOL! And no NDG they do not need to be white ;o),...unless they are in their Dress Whites I would imagine...those are so thin, might show color LOL!  "E" was told to always have a pair of those Tighty Whities packed in his Sea Bag though :)!!

@Susan...E said the same thing about TV's, and asked me to price them at Wallmart. I did find one at Walmart on a "after Christmas deal" but the Shipping killed me and was almost as much as the TV :( ! IF I was thinking, I would have ordered it online and sent it directly to him...but of course I wasn't thinking :), but online didn't have the same 'deal' anyway! Oh well...he is worth it!!

I'm thinking they don't need to be white and A is just still locked into "white" because of BC??  I'm sure he would not appreciate my post about boxers - he gave me heck today for posting about seeing the sub - so scratch that from your memories please!  I need to be more careful :-(

Hello everyone. I love hearing all about everyone's experiences getting to A school and BESS. N has decided that he wants me to take him a day early...he is really anxious to get there. He has been in constant contact with everyone via FB  and I think he is feeling a little left out!

I read that there are Meet and Greet pictures somewhere...where?

Lori...loved reading about the Sub.

Nancy...sorry to hear that I wasn't at home. I know you were hoping that he would be. N is off with another friend for dinner again tonight. Hey, he did watch a movie with me today, so I need  to be thankful for that! :)

Have a great night everyone...I'm off to grade some papers! UGH!

Here's a question. Do they ned to be white? Cuz I bought white ones and was promptly told by IB that they don't need to be white. Be funnyif they DID need to be white. But, even while I am laughing at this thread, I am totally identifying with it! I guess the BC undies totally sucked!
Comment by NC_Susan on December 29, 2010 at 7:34pm
Me too Wendi. He was really surprised by the prices of the TVs. Sounds like the underwear isn't much better!
