Since we are now able to send packages, wouldn't it be great if we shared our creative ideas of what we intend to send to our sailors?

My daughter is newly stationed at Goose Creek. I'm glad I found this site. My navigating skills around this area are rough. Any suggestions about how to communicate more efficiently?

Sacred's mom - yep I am looking forward to the at least weekly communication.
Tomorrow I say good bye to my salior son again. I had a complete melt down today. Holidays are hard for me because we do not live near family and no matter how many invitations I give for coming to our home no one comes. (we have gone many times in the past) Anyway thinking this may be the last holiday for a long time I am a little meloncoly.
He is ready to leave. He packed a little extra and thinks he is such a he man he can carry it all. I can't believe he is leaving.
Hugs and prayers are going out for our boys and girls!
My son came home with a head cold and a sore throat, He does not want to take time out of his visit to go to doctor, said he will go when he gets to School. I am just excited that he can take his cell phone with him. So, no worries, this will be much better for us than boot camp. We got my son a key chain that is a digital picture frame and holds 59 pictures,so he can take back pictures of family and friends and a digital camera so he can take pictures and upload to his camera and send from his camera until he is allowed to have his lap top.
So just imagine, that in A school he can take his cell phone and we can speak to him as much as he wants to talk to us................ That is awesome, to me, it will feel that he is hanging out and not so far from us.
Merry Christmas ladies...just sitting here enjoying the peace and quiet after a beautiful, but busy day! It has been so wonderful to be with N...but I did have a little melt down yesterday...maybe it was the exhaustion of driving out 15 hours and then turning right around and driving 15 hours home...but it hit me that he is going to be leaving again!!!!! I made myself stop thinking about that because I want to enjoy right now! But, every so often it creeps in again!
He is off with friends at the movies tonight, and in some ways it seems just like old times...
I was reading some old posts and I can relate to seeing him have a little bit of a difficult time adjusting to being home. He loves seeing his friends and going to visit people in our town...but I can tell that he is already feeling like he should be somewhere else! He has connected with his division through fb and they are already texting each other. Apparently they are told every morning what the uniform of the day is...well his bunk mate texted him and said, "Uniform of the day...boxers and slippers!" They already have a connection that goes beyond his relationships with his friends in our small town.
Wishing all of you a beautiful Christmas night!
Penny
Merry Christmas everyone. Sorry that I am so late logging on, but we had a flight cancellation in Atlanta Ga and did not make it home until yesterday with our Sailor. We did wonderful shopping in Great Lakes with every store allowing a 15% military discount. We flew through Air Tran and my son's bags were free (Air Tran allows military to place 3 bags under the plane for free). They issued all of us a free round trip ticket to be used within the next 12 months due to the flight cancellation coming home.
Our Christmas morning breakfast was started with a prayer, thanking God for allowing our Sailor to be home this year.
Merry Christmas everyone and congratulations to every Sailor that traveled the 8 week boot camp journey and graduated!

Merry Christmas everyone!!! H is going to fly Continental. My mom got her ticket and I guess they don't charge for military. We flew Delta and I asked them about luggage just out of curiosity. They told me thwat if they were on orders they don't charge up to 70 pounds.
Tysmom- what have you heard about traveling in uniform? H said she was told not to travel in uniform because they could be a target. Since you were the same divisions I was wondering if you had the same info. H's boyfriend said he would always go to the USO and change into uniform.
If southwest flies out of your area, they don't charge for luggage at all and you can check 2 bags. They also don't charge to change flight dates either.
Cindy, thanks for the head's up on the uniform information. I'm glad to hear that he is settling in pretty well. How are you doing?
sportsmom, what an awesome day your daughter has planned.
B's mom, that's nice that your daughter was thinking of you like that.
proudmom, I wish I had thought to take pictures of him sleeping too.
I can't believe it's almost 10:30a.m. here and my 2 sons and husband are still in bed. lol
Today and tomorrow are just for our family (and our daughter's sailor boyfriend) and I intend on enjoying every minute of it.
Sorry Penny, didn't mean to scare you ;)! ((Hugs))
Salma; Thank you so much for the info...I knew the guy didn't have a clue what he was doing. I intend to take my complaints to Delta and see if I can get a refund or a 'credit' for the future.
I had a nice phone conversation with "E" Last night. He is FINALLY starting to feel better, and his demeanor seamed much more up-beat and talkative! He talked about his 'dorm'...there is two beds in it and kind of like a hotel room with a key card entry he said. His "roommate" must be on leave or something he thought because he was not there and everything was locked up. He wants me to check into a cheap TV to send for watching movies...other Sailors that have arrived to NATTC are going out shopping buying Video Gaming machines etc... :). So, if your Sailor's have those they are allowed at "A-School."
Just a little FYI, if you get this before your Sailor leaves. "E" said parts of the Uniform that was issued at Boot Camp was not exactly "all" that was needed for this phase, so he had to spend another chunk of money to purchase what was needed now...nobody informed him of that at Boot Camp.
Merry Christmas Everyone!!!
Cindy
