Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Comment by Nancy on January 31, 2011 at 9:23pm: Oh My Gosh Lori, we are SO here for you. It will be interesting to note the differences and similarities between the two branches of the military. Sad that there is no Army for Moms though, because we were able (and still are!!) to find out so much!!

I did find out that IB got his "dream job" and is in fire control. I can't believe someone is putting him in charge of weapons. LOL If not for N4Ms, I wouldn't have known the kids had found out. I had to contact HIM and ask for details. And then of course, the civvies too...he needs them by this wknd and that is so not happening, as I need to take his brother with me to act as the fashion police. :-)

I will check in with you all on chat tonight and see what is going on!!

Tried to find an Army site similar to Navy for Moms and there isn't anything that compares so you all are going to have to be my support group! Looks like Drew is first going to South Carolina and then Virginia.

News in our house - Drew is headed to MEPS this Friday. He has signed with the Army - job is Small Arms Repair (non combat). So if all goes well medically, he leaves for Virgina May 15. Here I go again - not sure I'm ready and its Army not Navy. But, he is soooooooo excited so it is hard not to jump in the bus with him. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we start yet another journey. Praying there is an Army for Moms. I know Lori from CA has a daughter in Army. Anyone else?

That's ok about Adam, it was really thoughtful of you to even try. I just hope you really enjoy your visit with D. I can't wait to see the pictures. Good luck on the tournament too! My fingers are crossed that he will be to Phase up by the time you arrive.

Comment by NC_Susan on January 31, 2011 at 5:51pm: We are also claiming D for this year and he will file for his PT job before Navy and then for the few Navy checks he got. I will be taking him his W2 this week. I'm glad to know that there is someone who can help him file. He also wants to change his residency to FL since they don't have state tax but he doesn't know who to talk to. Any suggestions? He thinks that they were supposed to be told this during the first week but since he was fast-tracked he missed a lot.
The mechanic told us today that his car will make it so keep your fingers crossed for us because we are leaving at 5am Wednesday morning and driving 10 hours in a car that has 265,000 miles on it...God help us! My hubby isn't too happy about it but he'll get over it ;) I understand why D wants his car. 9 months is a long time to pay cab fares whenever he wants to leave base. He asked his instructor today about his phase 2 not coming throughand that we will be in town and his instructor told him he would look into it.
Donna - I will tell all about the trip when I get home! I'm so excited!
Betsy - I just realized that we wont be able to see Adam because he is in evening classes :(
