Just returned from San Diego and what a fun day. Beautiful warm weather. We got the tour of the USS Comstock and all I can say is...too many steep ladders to climb. They're all kids and go up and down without using the handrails. I thought it was good that I could do it at all. We certainly had a few laughs. I did meet Bridgete and her hubby in one of the back hallways. She's so sweet. She took my daughter and granddaughter to the "female" bathroom. No guest baths there! Got to meet so many of the sailors and I could tell that those who's families are at a distance hung around us. So that was great. They had a BBQ lunch on the deck. They are all amazing young people. I am so glad we could go. A warm welcome from the Chief and Master Chief. ccNavyMom..I don't know your sons name so maybe I did meet him and didn't know. So Proud!

No we wont be going but Bridgette will be on duty that day so if you see her say hi have your grandson introduce you to her!

I will be there for deployment though to stand on the pier and wave her off as her hubby goes to boot camp on the 16th feb and they dont deploy till after so will be in san diego for about 3-4 days so if you will be there for that then I will see you then so have a great day!

OK...we are going to Family Day tomorrow in San Diego. It finally all came together. Not sure what to expect but I'll let you know how it goes. Wish I knew your sailors to say hello.

makes perfect sense Fiona. Who knows if we'll be going. Still no definite instructions as yet. Seems to me this is so simple. We are so close I'd hate to miss it because we don't know what to do. At least at PIR they sent home instructions. But who knows what is going on on their end???

Hi Keb, sorry you won't be able to attend, but that's understandable. I sent an email to the ombudsman and got a response.  He'll check and send me the details. (I hope). My grandson is working that day so not sure how that will work, if at all. Not sure why the communication is not forthcoming so people could plan. We're 2 hrs away and hope to be there if possible. I'll keep you updated. Wish I could meet the moms.

to navynana and cheffiona -- enjoy the family day at the USS Comstock. My LO has duty that day and none of us are able to attend. It would be great to see him before deployment and see the ship but we all live in the MidWest and further east. With work schedules etc we just can't make the activities. Have a great visit

yes, that was quick. I got a pass before at the decal office near the front gate, He couldn't get it in advance because he wouldn't have it with him. Guess we have to coordinate all this and his time to meet us to get in. Not even sure if  we'll be able to go but will try for sure.
