Taisha ~ that is so wonderful that your young man seems to know exactly what he wants to do with his future!! How proud you must be of him! What gave him the idea to attend Annapolis? Great choice IMO.

All Annapolis moms/parents: What sparked the idea for your son or daughter to apply to the Academy?

Hi Barbara, Leslie, Denise and to everyone who continues to send such warm words of welcome. I am quickly becoming overwhelmed at how fast this process all seems to have taken a life of its own. He went from applying to apply and then speaking to his BGO to applynig for NROTC to speaking to our Congressman staffers...Who is this 16 year old youung man who just in January could not decide what color tux he wanted to wear for his "becoming a man" party. The gleam in his eyes is fantastic but a little much as all he talks right now is USNA...

Welcome Taisha. My Scott is there now. I do remember the long process... It intensified for Scott btwn his sophmore & jr yr of hs. He worked as an intern for one of the Congressman. The grades, the ACT over and over, the workouts.....OY.... it makes his plebe summer that he is enduring now seem like a breeze..... Of course I was the MOMMY detailer.

All kidding aside, Scott received early acceptance in Jan 2009 for the Class of 2013. I found Navy for Mom's just a few days prior. What a blessing... I cried as I typed, and during most church services on Sunday. So grateful I had 6 months + to get it together. I was so pleased I was able to smile from ear to ear and not break down on I-Day. I was so thankful that I was able to be there for Scott. Best wishes to you and your son. Let me know if I can help. Born and raised in NY (Bronx & Upstate - Catskills).

Hi, I'm Taisha and I'm from Springfield Gardens, NY, about 5 miles from JFK Airport. I'm a little new to all of this. My son, James, is beginning the application process to USNA and I found out about this site from Sherry James (hey girl).
It has been a real blessing! So many moms going (or went) through the emotional rollercoaster that I have just begun. Thought I was in this all alone. Who knew!
I won't write a book (this time) just wanted to introduce myself. I'm going to continue to read through all the great posts on everything USNA and Navy! Have a great day.

Alaina and jpjades......They don't hold the mail. A detailer has to go to the mail room and pick up the mail for the whole company. Once it is picked up it must be delievered to the plebes. Depending on training and staffing mail is picked up when time allows.

Enjoy the roller coaster ride.
