Well done! Of course getting the nomination doesn't mean they get the appointment! That was a bit of a shock to me cos I thought after all the hardwork it would be a shoe in! We were a bit surprised when the BGO said we should apply to other service academies too but now my daughter was pleased that she did? Has your daughter applied to other academies? I must say that the admissions office at Annapolis is great and your daughter should friend them on Facebook - they have a great page with lots of info for the candidates. What point are you at right now in your admission process?

Erin is in an NJROTC unit that achieved the "Distinguished Unit with Honors" award. Each year, the units who get the award get to nominate two cadets from that unit to any academy they wish. Erin has already been told that she will get one of these nominations, because none of her other classmates have requested it. It's no guarantee, but we get to skip over the congressional stuff.

Hi Arwen - I never found a group of high school moms! Unfortunately!
My daughter is also nearer the end. She did receive one congressional nomination but for the Air Force Academy! She hasn't given up hope yet - we still have 2 Senators and the VP! What a long process it has been! If you have any questions ask away!

Is there a group for parents of high-schoolers who are applying to the Academy? My daughter is in the very early end of the process. My entire family is enlisted (either vets or retired), so while we know the Navy very well, we're not at all familiar with this end of things.

So nice to see activity here.

Yes, you are correct priors start with a clean slate, no credit for training or other college units.  If they have completed a college course they can challenge the course if a challenge is offered (but not all course have challenges offered).  Priors usually have a easier time during Plebe summer because they have already been through BC.

Donna - we have been told from the B&G Officer that you basically start with a clean sheet - no transfers - start as a freshman!

Donna: I don't think they transfer the hours like a regular college does but he may test out of some hours and or classes. There won't be anything different for him. As far as training I believe he does everything that everyone else has to do. He'll go through plebe summer just like everyone else. My son had a prior Marine in his company who had served two years in Iraq. He's kind of starting over again. He'll probably be better prepared for the physical demands.

Thanks AnnfromLouisiana! We are very excited for him.
Can anyone tell me what will be different for my son since he has finished BC and will have finished A school before attending Academy? He has said his previous 30 college hours will not be accepted, but I think he will skip some training since completed BC and A school? Any clarification? We are awaiting his orders for January through beginning Academy in June.

Donna: Congratulations to your son and to you. What a huge accomplishment. My son is a 2011 graduate, now in Norfolk for NFO E2C Hawkeye training. His time at the Academy flew by. It was a great time. Go to as many events as you possibly can. They are all incredibly special. Annapolis is a great place to visit.

Hello Annapolis Moms!! My son is finishing A school in Pensacola and found out last week he has been accepted to USNA. We are very proud of him. He spent a year at Texas A&M before signing with the Navy at the beginning of this year. It has been a whirlwind, and we had no idea he was even planning on applying so we are thrilled for him and have a lot more to learn.
