Happy Thursday! I went to the doc yesterday and he said that I am in pretty good shaped which is a good thing. I still have aches and pains but that is called "life" and getting older.
We know Sha', we are all proud of our children and protective as a mama bear. It's kind of scary to think that outsiders are reading what we write.

I was googling for my tv interview one day so I could forward it to someone. And when I put in Heads at Ease, a blurp from my HAE page on this website came up in the google search!!!! Now that was an eye opener to me.

And Linda, we will want a report on what you ended up doing for these fine sailors.

Hi Mom’s! You have a great group here!

Here is a little clip from our Community Guidelines. Remember – "WHEN IN DOUBT, LESS IS BETTER"

My Sailor is in XYZ unit and is stationed at ABC camp in XXX city in Iraq.
My daughter is aboard the XYZ ship heading to ABC city/country in X days.
They will be coming back on X date from XXX city.
CORRECT:
My Sailor is deployed in Iraq.
My son is aboard the Stennis.
They will be coming back sometime in May.

Chris, if you had said the wrong thing, the Navy admin would have contacted you privately and also would've deleted the post. I had posted the public website for the Lincoln recently and they contacted me. When I questioned what I had said and believe me, I was shocked to hear from them, it turned out they deleted in error cause it was the public website.
CS mom is right-it's the word deployment that freaks everyone out. We know you are as concerned for the other sailors as well as your own. After all, you are a Navy mom.
So welcome to the USS Abraham Lincoln site and we can let the admin handle violations. Cause they do monitor everything we say.

Linda, sugar cookies are a great choice. And when my son deployed in 2008, a friend of mine made him 5 dozen cookies when he left. she had anchors deocrated with water and "rope"-licorce. Plus, she baked square ones and frosted them to look like the flags that are used for various codes. My son and buddies loved them.
Still check the dollar store for mulitiple packs of things. or how about this? get some shamrock stickers, put on a piece of fun foam, add a magnet and you have a fun magnet for their rack. You can add the words "thank you for your service" or "navy moms love you" etc.
I made up magnets like that for a ladies lunch and my table was patriotic.

Linda a few questions:
purpose of the gift ie: thank you, birthday, Valentine Day, just because I feel like it.

have you tried the dollar and look at their packages of multiple things? like pads of paper, stickers, pencils, candy etc. that would bring the price right down and maybe you could send several items.
check out the clearance corner of any store.
check out thrift stores.

but, if your son is included in the gifts, then I'd go for the cookies.

Would you be willing to write these letters? Susan said that 22 ships will be going to Haiti and we are trying to get letters in the hand of each sailor. You can go to the MAS room for the address or contact me.
Thanks and please pass the word! Sue
CALLING ALL MOMS! Here is a chance to let ‘our’ sailors know how much we love and support them! If there is one thing every Navy mom learns during boot camp it is to write a great letter! And you Molly moms practice it each and every month sending love to our deployed!

Will you please write a letter or thank you card to a Sailor aboard the USS Carl Vinson which is conducting humanitarian and disaster relief operations? Our goal is to send over 5,000 thank you cards to Chaplain ‘Fish’ by February 10th! He will distribute the cards and letters we send to the crew on the Vinson and the other Navy ships (the USS Bataan, USS Nassau and USS Comfort headed to provide support to Haiti!

Contact your local schools, scout groups and churches! Collect as many thank you notes and cards and send them along! The best (and most cost effective) way to send them might be a flat rate box offered by the Post Office! Let these sailors know that you are proud of them and say thank you for all they are doing!

For the address of Chaplain ‘Fish’ please contact me with how many cards you have gathered and I will be happy to provide the address! Thank you so much!

When the USS Carl Vinson pulled out of Norfolk January 12th on the way to their new homeport of San Diego they were singing ‘California Dreaming’. That night a devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti and their destination changed. The Vinson was one of the first ships able to respond. We have all watched the news and seen the pictures. But can you imagine what it is to be at sea for the first time and called to duty in such an important mission? To feel the 95+ degree heat, experience the cry for help and pain, see the devastation up close?

Many of our sailors are boots on the ground and many more are providing support for them. Those sights and sounds will stay with them forever. The United States Navy has prepared them to do their jobs, and let's face it; we know they are the best of the best.

These sailors are pumping over 3,500 gallons of water a day to deliver to quake victims, launching well over 600 flights of aid and rescue from their deck, providing security and caring for many injured. They have given of themselves… working long hours, catching sleep when they can. Here is our chance to let them know how much we appreciate all they are doing

And the Culinary specialists work really hard! I asked for a private tour of one of the galleys. It was during the airshow and they couldn't believe that I would go there instead of seeing the planes. I told them that I love to cook/bake and that I was truly interested in what they do. and I know how much work it is.
I also told them that I would be happy to see the planes land, which is what I did.
Very impressive operation on the ship. Please thank her for me.

Susan, I will work on getting some cards/letters for the sailors.
