those were such fun pictures! thanks for posting Joanne! While on tc, we had a karoke and ice cream social night. So much ice cream! I thought it was just a special event for us, so I am glad to see that it is a regular thing!

I've seen manning the rails, but from the ship end. same with homecoming. It is a beautiful site to see the sailors lined up! We stood directly behind our son, in the shade of a plane. It was hot as we left Hawaii.
And I bet it will be cold too.

I watched Carrier before I went on tc. It has lots of drama in it, but I found it to be informative. It gave me an idea of what to expect, but I wasn't prepared for the size of the the Lincoln. That ship is huge!

the berthing has about 150 beds, which are divided up into "cubes". Those are 6 beds (racks), stacked 3 high on each side of a narrow asisle. The top rack is open to the ceiling. there is about 18" between the other 2 and they have a reading light and a navy blue curtain.
the bottom rack is about 1 foot off the ground and a challenge to get in. My female sailor had to show me how to get in.
the storage is under the rack-shallow with compartments. then a foot locker at the end of the cube. a good combo/key lock is needed for both. I'd say the locker is about 3 feet tall and 1 foot wide.

I was in a number of "heads" while on tc. The one that I used was small. 2 showers-pretty roomy, with 2 toilets. a long counter with 4 or 5 sinks. I got up at 4 am to get my shower and ready for the day-I didn't want to be in the way of the sailors.
Other heads that I visited had more toilets and showers. pretty much like a locker room I guess. curtains on the showers and doors on the toilet stalls.
Tp can run out, so mail your sailors some tp. my son got a huge box from a stranger and he sent tp. He loved it!

the sailors always have to be dressed to go to the head as it's outside of the berthing and the males are in the same area. I slept in sweatpants and tshirt,

there is a small "common" area in the berthing,. a tv playing and games are played there. it is "lights out" from 10 pm to 6 am and 10 am to 6 pm. They do have red lights on though so you can see your way around.

does this help?

no laptops on the ship. email is filtered, what comes in and out. plus they could mess with the ship's communications systems.
sometimes they have black outs for various reasons.

There are quite a few-maybe 15 or 20 in the library, but you have to sign up to use them. and think there is a time limit.
I asked to use one while on tiger cruise and the sailor was hesitant, but the stations weren't filled, so he let me.

Hi Cindy,
Yes I've heard from my son via e-mail. They appear to all be doing very well.
