Wow Cathy, reading your comment below made me soooo weepy, I know exactly how you feel. I worry about Joey the same way you do and the rest of the ladies. I too am soooo glad that we have each other on this site.

has he rinsed his eye with water - I mean, tip the head back and drop water into the eye? or eye drops? I'd advise medical too.

Welcome Penny! this is a great place to connect with moms and learn lots of great stuff!
My son is with a squadron with is attached to the Lincoln. He's in VA, but served on a 7 month deployment last year.

Hi Lorrie,
I haven't seen you online in a while, how have you been? I was telling my son yesterday that life has changed so much in twelve months. Last year at this time our boys were in bootcamp and getting ready for Battlestations and graduation. So, how does it feel being a "mother-in-law"? You are so lucky to have your son so close to you. Joey is hating the weather up there lately, he is not used to the cold and the rain.
You are a great resource for a lot of moms and young wives getting ready to move up there. Joey is living with a friend in Bremerton, but I think their lease is up soon and they will be moving to the Everett side once the ship goes back to its homeport.

Hi Elizabeth,
Welcome to the group. The commute can be two hours if he is commuting via car. The highway goes around Puget Sound, so it's a long drive. When does your husband report to the Lincoln? I'm sure that by the time you move up to Washington, the ship should be back to it's homeport in Everett, which there wouldn't be a commute.

Cathy,
How nice that Marty was excited about talking to Cpt. Hall, I remember Joey calling my husband to tell him the same thing story.
Regarding the suspended harness over the side of the ship, I remember seeing in the Penny Press in one of May's issues, 2 sailors being suspended from this harness, they were either painting or cleaning the side of the Lincoln. I don't like being so high, but what a great view that must have been. I've seen those seals swimming in a small dock they have by the Bremerton Ferry (very close to the ship), they are actually very interesting to watch.

Cathy, I don't think I would like to hear that either! As it got closer to deployment they went on a couple of DETs for training. The last time he was on the Lincoln was the end of January.

Sue,
How often does your son's squadron board the Lincoln? You say that he is always picked up in San Diego.

yes, I believe it is. that is where my son's squadron is always picked up, plus there are some other CA squadrons that board there.
It was a wonderful experience, even though it was bittersweet. He stood up on the flight deck for along time so we could wave at him.
