oh and you pay your way to Hawaii and it cost us $105 for the tiger cruise., That helps defray the food and pays for all the cool commemorative stuff they give you.

okay, yes, shop would be like a department. I am glad that Marie mentioned "line shack" casue that's where my son started. Don't know why they call it that.
We got a tour of part of the Mags on Tiger Cruise.
We flew to Hawaii and boarded the ship in Pearl Harbor. Only the Pacific fleet boards there I think. Moms have taken tiger cruises on the east coast-depends on where the ships home is I would guess and what time of deployment they are on.
Marie, thanks for putting that link in. I don't really know how to do that.

Cathy,
My son is an AO also and he calls his area the "Mag" I believe it stands for Magazine (I'm assuming its the same principal as a magazine on a gun, which holds the bullets). My son was tellling me how far down they are in the belly of the ship...wow, I would hate that. I'm sure they don't know if it night or day in the mags.

Cathy, your son will be delighted to know his friends are next door. Just moving to a unknown city is quiet an adjustment. My son hated it at first, but quickly got used to it with help of friends from bootcamp and A School in Pensa
cola.

Sue,
I will look for the blog, if I can't find it I will send you my e-mail, sounds interesting. One quick question, where did you join the ship for this Tiger Cruise?

I was lucky. My son had a computer in his shop, so we emailed alot. The sailors work 12 on, 12 off. so they don't all go at the same time. And there was a time limit I believe. In fact, I had to get special permission to use one. And I didn't stay on long as I didn't want to take a sailor's time.

tiger cruise-one of the best experiences I've ever had in my life! I have some pictures from it with a description on my page. Check it out. I also wrote a blog from the ship for a local news channel. You might be able to access it yet online at www.KVOA.com. It was under guest bloggers.
If not and you really want to read 8 days worth, pm me your emaill address and I will forward all 8 days for you to read. and more pictures.

Sue,
What did the tiger cruise entail? I'm not familiar with it.

yes, they have internet access when out to sea. they won't be able to use their laptops for that though. Depending on job, they may have access to a computer in their shop.
If not, there is a nice library with maybe 10 or more computers-I think more, that they can use. I used one on tiger cruise.

Hi Cathy,
Your son will be happy to know that the Stennis is docked next to the Lincoln right now. Your son will be able to see his friends until they move back to their homeport in the winter.

Marie, when does your daughter join the Lincoln?

Do any of the Lincoln Navy Mom's know of the best form of communication with our kids once they are out to see? Do they have any internet access on the ship at all?

My son is in the Norfolk area of Virginia. Cause he's with a squadron that is assigned to the Lincoln.
I've been to the Midway. It's really cool. We toured that when our son deployed last year. And the Lincoln is much, much bigger!
