Grandson, Chad headed back to Virginia this afternoon. He is riding back with a buddy also from Northwestern Ohio.  They also were in A school together. Had a very nice visit with him when we had our Christmas lunch.

dollyslaffn - great news and continued prayers

meagan5220 - I think he is careful as he said that just a few days after getting there he had a guy sitting on the corner asking for money!!! He was not a happy camper! Lol.  If I remember right he also said that he found out one of his buddies from boot camp was in the same barracks.

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Cool Mom-my husband says those are beyond nice! but I have heard they are probably going to end up moving everyone over to the Newport News ones soon because those are for the ships in the shipyard. Idk for sure. I just know my husbands friend is trying to see about moving into our extra room, but unfortunately another sailor from the ship was living there and I went out of my way to do A LOT for him and he ended up moving out with less than thirty days notice and left us in a tight bind and messed stuff up and was very unappreciative... because of that I am def very hesitant to let another sailor move in. Some people dont care and are disrespectful because it doesnt directly impact them. Jsut shady. lol sorry mini vent!

you are welcome Proud Gma! Oh yeah he lives in the NN ones :) They actually arent far from me. Wythe is an area in Hampton. I live in Hampton :) The biggest thing about the NN barracks is dont just walk around and ask for trouble pretty much lol. Just warn him to be smart a lot of people in this area recognize military and would gladly take advantage of them in some way if they can.

@ meagan5220...Thanks for the info.  I will probably just wait until he gets home to get his address. I'm not sure where his barracks are located but I will tell him to be careful. Most of his cell messages show wythe but he says he lives in Newport News...Lol!!!

Hi all!  My daughter lives in the barracks in Portsmouth.  They are really nice.  I was thinking about moving into them.  LOL

Is he living in the barracks in Newport News? Def tell him to be careful in the area. My husband drives the busses over there. Thats really good he is getting some leave. Sometimes they wont get them that leave so close to reporting. I would wait and ask your sailor for his address at the barracks. that is just me opinion though, as guys are moving out and people are shuffling around it might get lost if sent to the ship. He can use his cell phone.. just on the ship he probably wont have service but when he is off work they dont tell them that they cant use their phones.

To send mail to our sailor's, is that address posted on October 31, 2012 the one you use?? Trying to get an address from my sailor is like pulling teeth, especially since they can use their cell phones! But of course, since I'm just the grandma he doesn't call me either. Wanted to send him a card.  Thanks.

My grandson, Chad just arrived on the USS Abe Lincoln at the beginning of Dec. He will be getting holiday leave for a week at Christmastime!

Hopefully, I will learn alot from this group.

I have seen that the ship is on a RCOH and he seems to like it so far. A down side though, he said he is living in the ghetto...lol!
