Now that PIR is so close, I have joined this group and feel like a newbie all over again. Question 1. Can they wear contacts at A school? Question 2. I know that we are going into Chicago on Saturday. The general consensus is that it is easier to take the train? We will be going to Navy Pier. Where can I find a schedule on-line? Question 3. I have "heard" that they are experiencing problems with the live-stream and extra guests (we have 1) "might" be able to fill in unused seats in Performance Hall on smaller graduations. (There are 8 divisions in our PIR). Can anyone verify that? So thankful for this site. It has helped to keep me sane since late May.

Anti M - can you DM me? I have a situation that doesn't really involve A school that I would like to hear your opinion about.

@newnavymom2, I had to do a little searching, I thought I had it in one of my messages, but couldn't find it. Sarge will also give you this info if you go to the meet & greet, but here it is: On Buckley Rd (the main entrance road)  stay to the Left and Drive past the line of cars waiting to get on base.  Drive under the train tracks and make a U-turn.  Drive back under the tracks and turn Left onto the base.

We did a dry run of this route the day before, and then followed this and bypassed a lot of people, the car line forms early. Got to park in the parking garage, and our walk was pretty short.

Sorry, tpadul is correct. There are other forms of ID that can get you onto base, I just assume others don't have them. You can also get onto base if you're a DOD commissioned employee, if you work at any of the locations on base like the student NEX, the loft, MWR, etc. I'll clarify that if you only have your state driver's license or tourist passport when you reach the gate, you cannot get onto base without your sailor. Thanks tpadul for pointing this out, I now realize that could be confusing if people do carry other ID or privileges.

Blackbirdmom, what is the shortcut? please post or msg me. I didn't see a link in your post.  Thanks

PIR day, take the shortcut that you will find on here.  You'll be able to get in much faster. Also, go early. We got there right after 6 am, and got a good choice of seats. I took small stadium cushions, and I was thankful for them. LOL Those bleachers get hard. Fortunately, it will be warm when you are there. It was COLD, rainy and windy on March 31.

I read in Sarge's survival guide it's best to take care of pictures and other such memorabilia prior to avoid uneccessay long waits. I apologize for not having that link at hand but it's def worth the trouble of finding; I printed and studied it. From what parents are saying it's best to show up as early as possible to check them out to avoid the crowd and get our Sailors!! ?

It was about 3 for us when we got him we visited for awhile and ate but I was able to pick him up the next day at 5 am.

It was around 4:00 for us, also.  We knew it would be a wait, so we went back to the hotel, and took naps. As soon as he called, we headed back up to sign him out, and that took a little while. After that, we went to eat, and then talked for a while. He was exhausted by the end of that day. The next morning we could pick him up at 6 am, but it was almost 7 before we got off base.

I think we got our Sailor by 1:30. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long.
