I just asked my son about the ATM's. Shouldn't have any trouble with a debit/credit card from any bank, he said.

Will, just on the off chance you were on duty today, my son drove me and his two doaughters on base. He thought he would recognize your truck, but the lot was pretty empty. He took us to the marina, then to the recruit side to show us where he works. We saw plenty of new sailors marching while we were there. So you moms that have sons that haven't had PIR, I believe I saw your sons and daughters! It's changed a lot since his PIR 5 1/2 years ago.

I'll have Tyler try on base again. On the RTC side, he was told by NEX clerk that ATM only took Military Bank cards, not other bank cards.

Question: Can Sailors get cash from ATMs on base if their bank accounts are from other banks? Tyler said on RTC base he could not get cash with his Regions check card. They only honored the Military Bank cards.

Good evening all....
Hey Gary - good to hear from you! Yes, you will be about 5 hours away when you get to Vegas. Not all that far. My vacation was great and I sure missed my Navy family as I wasn't able to get online too much. BTW, I thought you did a super job holding down the fort..B/Z to you!!! Glad you got Nick safely home and can enjoy your weekend with him. Boy, that dip in the pool and cool can of beer sounds wonderful. Have a great weekend with your kid.
Night everyone!

Hi everyone and a HUGE WELCOME to all our new members! I'm still playing catch-up here at home after returning from my vacation; therefore, I'm not online too often. I just wanted to wish everyone a GREAT WEEKEND coming up.

When Tyler was at RTC, he had the NEX money card that was issued to him and deducted from his paycheck. He said he was told at NEX on A school grounds that card was not good anywhere but at the RTC NEX. It seems if it was purchased with recruits money it would be good at any NEX. Any clarification on this?

Whitey’s New “Sgt Camo” Ice Cream Going to Iraq for Troops

Moline, IL. Soldiers in Iraq will soon be treated to “Sgt. Camo” Ice Cream, the newest creamy creation from Whitey’s Ice Cream in Moline, IL. Whitey’s has teamed up with the Military Warriors Support Foundation to send the camouflaged colored ice-cream to cool off troops in the deserts of Iraq.

The idea for the sending the ice cream treat to soldiers came after Whitey’s owners, Jeff & Jon Tunberg decided to donate half of the proceeds from sales of “Sgt Camo” to the Military Warriors’ concert/fundraiser on Sept 5th

The fundraiser will be held in LeClaire Park in Davenport and will include a concert by Christian recording artists Michael W. Smith and John Waller as well as appearances by Pastor Matthew Hagee. Wounded warriors, including Jeremiah Workman (navy cross & purple heart recipient) will be recognized at the event and active military will be admitted free.
