My daughter will be in the S-PACT program therefore her training will be there at the Great Lakes facility. I'm still unsure if she will be able to stay with us at night after PIR for the weekend or can we only see her during the days that weekend?

Thanks for any help!

Everyone gets orders in advance, when possible.  It is just the way manning is run.  There are "x" billets, and they know when people are leaving, what paygrades and ratings are needed, and who will be available soon. This allows a sailor, especially one with dependents, to plan their move, do all the paperwork, and take some leave en route.  It makes sense once you're in the system.

I was in Glakes a long time ago.  We had hold times too.  Boring, and too much time on our hands, and we had fewer limits on our free time.  I am amazed I did not get into trouble, I was adventurous.

And just out of curiousity, why would he get his orders for a date when his school won't be finished yet?

Comment by blackbirdmom on June 27, 2017 at 5:15pm

He did finish his BECC, and did well. Starting Strand July 12 unless they have enough to start the class sooner. I've kind of given up on a timeline. LOL He is looking forward to this part of it, though. He hates hold time. (Don't they all?) His big worry was that his orders would change if he didn't make it by that early Sept. date.

GSE is actually pretty long.  10 weeks of Common Core, and 11 weeks of "strand".

GSE is his rating. There is some talk about several programs being extended. Not sure who is doing the talking though. :-)

Unless the billet is "hot" and needs a warm body ASAP, then he will likely keep his orders.  What's his rating?  I can find the cool card and get the exact number of weeks of seat time.

So, he'll probably keep his duty station, just leave later? He is finishing the GS BECC part today and moving on to electrical in a couple of weeks. Originally, that class was 4 weeks, but he's heard it will now be 8 weeks. So, with hold time, he's looking at a 5-6 week difference.

Comment by Anti M on June 23, 2017 at 3:46pm

Yeah, five weeks might not make a difference.  Probably not.

Comment by blackbirdmom on June 23, 2017 at 3:00pm

He was told on Monday that they are changing his program and he will be in A school in GL for 5 more weeks. He said that could change his orders. He wasn't sure if they would just push his date back (right now early Sept, and there is no way he will make that date if they have 5 more weeks of schooling) or change his orders entirely. He was frustrated and really doesn't want his duty station changed. Welcome to the Navy, I guess. :-)
