Because my son was not a grad and go, he could not take his cell phone and laptop with him. I overnighted his cell phone to him using UPS. I just read somewhere that we should only mail things to them using USPS. Before I send him his laptop, I am trying to find out if I goofed when I used UPS or does it not matter who I use to ship these items? Thank you to anyone who can help me
here is the newsletter for all the activities at GL:

Tiffany had a girl drop out of her ATT class yesterday, she said the girl has been trying to get kicked out ever since boot :( Well, whatever the girl did this last time worked. Sad to see that happen, but I guess it's not for everyone :( Tiffany gets homesick too, thank goodness for Skype and the phone! LOL
My son has not gotten homesick yet. But we live only acouple of hours away and we have been to see him on some weekends and he is now able to come home on the weekends if he dosen't have duty. I bet once he is far away from home he will get homesick.
As far as how long A school is, it is my understanding that there are acouple of things that our sailors have to go threw before they actually start A school. There is a week or so of some type of induction, and then a selfpaced ATT before the actual A school starts. My son PIR 12/03/10 and moved to the other side the following week. He finished the induction part before coming home on leave for Christmas on the 17th. He returned on the 2nd and started up agian on the 3rd. He is still doing the selfpace thing and is wanting to finish it up fast so he came start his A school. I told him to take is time but, you know how boys are. His orders have him on track to finish A school sometime at the end of April. He wants to do well because he is hoping to get Riverine. Which makes me worry even more but, if that is what he wants I will support him all the way.
Can't be too cautious. Sailors do pay others to take their watches, but that isn't technically allowed. Just overlooked a lot. So we'll overlook it.
Maybe he's out shoveling snow for little old ladies. Which is entirely possible. Lots of guys pick up off the books work off base for extra cash. I don't think student sailors are allowed to have "real" part time jobs; but there's plenty of opportunity to pick up small jobs. My hubby had a job at a base club at one of his commands, I taught English offbase in Japan.
Boot camp is full of hustle and bustle, so when they get to A school or any kind of hold situation, it can feel like a let down. All part of the hurry up and wait. She should fill her time with constructive activities.
Ahem. It is illegal for a sailor to be paid for taking another sailor's watch. So we have to assume no one is doing that. And if they were foolish enough to do so, then no one else should make mention of it on a public forum where anyone, including senior members of the chain of command, might have the chance to read about said illegal conduct. Hint, hint, yes?
