OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Firefly....Welcome to the group. It is hard having your love one away and having a long distance relationship, been there done that (its been a few years, but I can remember being young and in love).

One thing that I have learned over my life time and most importantly in the military (I grew up in the Marine corp, married into the Air Force and sent my son off to the Navy) is there is one unwritten rule: Mom's always get first and last hugs and kisses.

Eventho you are the love of his life, in the military they encourage the parent relationship first. Its not that you are not first in his heart, it just the way of life there, call mom and dad first and foremost. He will more than likely have written his parents (as required by the DI's), so if you are on good terms with his mom, please make contact with her so she can share the information.

His box of personnal items will more than likely be sent to his parents, because that will be his record of home address and declaration. Not to slite you, but this is how they view things in the military.

Your time will come.

My son has been married 8 years and my DIL and I have a great relationship. We talk and share things. When they where dating, she was included in everything. We treated her to vacations with us, so the two of them would have time together and she was always present for gathering whether our son was home or away.

All of these relationship take work.

Keep busy while your sweetie is away, stay focused.

Best of luck to you,
Jody
