Hi Twin Sailors Mom. You are in good company. Our son graduated from ODS 3 weeks ago and is stationed at Naval Hospital Pensacola as an RN. When got his orders, he is also one of the "chosen" nurses to be in a MASH unit for the Marines. The Navy doesn't call it a MASH unit, but that's what it's like. We are expecting a deployment to some medical tent in the Mid East in the near future. Every time I think about it, I just tear up and try to fight back the tears. As you say, our children are leaving a hole in their state and in their family. We too are proud of him as we know that he will serve and care for any wounded Marines with care and compassion.
I take Steve to the recruiter office Monday Nov 5th, he gets driven to Denver (5 hours away) and flies to Great Lakes the next day on the 6th. I get tearful often. I loose my buddy and he will leave a hole here in Colorado. I am excited for his future and proud of him but will miss him terribly.
Thanks Craig Appreciate the Info!

For the pillow, the sailors I work with swear by the Comfort Memory Pillow - Cloud Soft Foam. I thought it was a scam, but they say it's not. I haven't bought one yet, but I am going to.

Hi everyone, My son joined the GW stationed out of Japan in July and is out on his first deployment. When I talked to him this weekend he said he would love a decent pillow and blanket. Does any know if he can have linen/pillow from home? What size are the mattresses? Any other suggestions on what to send a sailor on a ship with very little storage? Thanks for any help!
I will still have one of my twins home this Christmas, but the other will be gone by thanksgiving. I know what you mean about the sadness. I as will am excited for both of my young men and Steve already stands taller and is much more grown up. I couldn't be prouder of them, but I sometimes read these posts and cry. I will miss them very much. This is different than sending them off to college, won't see them very often after they go. However on the bright side don't have to worry about them getting into trouble at college, no frat parties.
I'd love to meet you also but we're out of town Nov 9-26.
