OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Soooo excited!!!! Just got word that my son earned his FMF pin. Talked to him yesterday before board & he was so nervous. I just said "look you got this, you know the info you're going to pass & that's it" he was like "Ok I hope so". I am so proud of him!!!!

I have to add that even when they get to their permanent duty station, you can't "plan" a trip!! My son is in Italy and I'd love to be able to plan a trip six - twelve months out, but he may be deployed at any given time! Be a darn shame if we were to show up and him not there! It is what it is though and the military works on it's own calendar and time clock.
Jacqueline - your son's achievments and training will pay off in the end even if that road seems a little "long!" You must be so proud of him.

Ditto on airlines being kinder. I tried to play the sympathy card with AA but they wouldn't budge. The reason I chose them over SW was because the flight was cheaper but now that it has ended up costing me $300 more to change the flight date, I think I will be sticking with SW no matter the price.

NavyMom, this is some of the sacrifice that military families make-you cannot always depend on leaves occuring when planned. While planning is good, the military can and will make changes quickly. We had a vacation planned to my son's favorite place, scheduled before he moved on to CL, only to be informed later that his leave date had been delayed and our plans were thus cancelled. It is something that the civilian world doesn't understand and it takes some getting used to.:) More reason to be proud of our sons and daughters who make the necessary adjustments to military life!

If they are being sent to Lajuene for FMTB....that training is very intense, not all of it happens on the base itself, and basically, they are too tired to move most of the time...but I did get some fun phone calls while he was there "MOM!! I hit 3 IVs in the helicopter, first try!!"....

NavyMom. . .I know exactly how you feel. I had high hopes my sailor would be able to come home between A school and C school, but the Navy graduated him out of A school two weeks early, he missed the clinical training and shipped him down to C school. There were 4 Corpsmen in his class all going to the same C school. He's the only one who left early, all the others showed up a month later, which gave them all the opporunity to possiblity go home for a week.
