Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Most in my sons class didn't have a choice, only 7 went on to C school. Most of the rest went to FMTB, that's what Dan wanted anyway. He wanted to go greenside so he may have volunteered, not sure.

Congrats to new recruits and grads, and to their moms too1
I know my son volunteered for FMTB and to go greenside, but I had no idea a corpsman could opt out of FMTB. It's been my understanding that corpsmen go through that training, even with other C schools in their official plans. I know Inga's daughter did it several years ago before her instructor stint at GL and is just now going green.

Deana I agree make sure you join the Corpsman School group, they were awesome when my son was there. He graduated Corp school Aug 31 and is now stationed in Saesbo, Japan, (opted not to go to FMTB thought it was more than mom could handle:) ) He is currently taking a 4 week EMT class and if successful will be a nationally certified EMT. He is loving the Navy.

Deana - Congrats to your daughter!! PIR is going to be wonderful and amazing and you won't soon forget the range of emotions when you see your daughter again. I still tear up thinking about those long 8 weeks. My son PIR'd June 6, 2010, so I'm still learning the ropes myself. He has gone through A School and FMTB and is now stationed in Italy. We miss him like crazy, but he loves what he's doing and that's all that matters. Definately join the A School for Corpsman group - lots of support and help there.

Deana! you are in the right place..kinda! there is an actual moms group for moms with kids in A school. If you look above the Discussion Forum but below the photos, you will see Helpful links...and a link to that group. We are always here for all corpsman moms, but in my instance, it's been 6 years since my son was in A school, and with all the changes to San Antonio, etc, we might now have all the answers to your questions. We do have Inga, whose daughter is still an instructor for the time being at GL, so she's a world of help for hard questions.
