While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I want to thank everyone for all the insightful posts. I have a 17 year old son who is in the DEP program until he finishes high school and turns 18. He leaves for bootcamp in Aug. He hopes to become an FMF Corpsman.
Reading the posts help me understand what I can expect as he begins his Naval career.

Terri - my son is Devin, he had PIR on 12/24 Div 046, he was his divisions Yeoman! He came out of basic with stripes :0) and was able to come home until Jan 3rd. Thank goodness for that because the waiting to start class would have driven him insane! He told me he is in Bravo class, but hasn't said too much about his instructor. He did say thus far he thinks he's really going to like it! I guess the bowling alley and the gym are his usual haunts when he's got free time, says it's too darn cold for anything else! :0)

Had to share, have been away from home for the past couple of days traveling for work, got home last night around 9:00 and there on the kitchen counter was a box from GL, thought wonder what he's sending home now? Imagine my delight when I opened it to find it stuffed with a pink Navy hoodie, a ballcap (also pink) a I heart my Sailor sticker for my truck window, 2 Navy Mom t-shirts and a Navy flag! And a scrap fo paper that read "happy birthday Mom - I love you!" Spoke with my son briefly, classes officially started this week, thus far he loves it and is so happy to be keeping busy, says rumor has them graduating on April 10th but nothing official yet.

Hmm...Kristine...my son will be leaving the 2/2 at Lajuene sometime in mid summer...wonder if your son is the replacement? funny how it works!
The 2/2 just returned from the sand in November, not sure what's next for them.

Mary Jane - just catching up here, I'm so sad that you and your son are going through this! Seems to me that if he has asthma they'd have caught it when they did physicals at bootcamp. Tell your son to fight and fight with all his might! Yay for him to request a 2nd opinion, in fact he needs to demand one! My son had a friend that they discharged from bootcamp for asthma, he had to wait 6 months to appeal it, in the mean time he went to several doctors for 2nd opinions and all said he didn't have it, he was armed with their reports when he had his appeal and they let him in after all! Put him behind almost 8 months but he's a sailor now! Will keep your and yours in my prayers.
