It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Hi All! I'm new to the site. My son went to MEPS last Monday. I've been trying to gather info since this absolutely new and foreign to me! When I looked at the PIR ceremony guide, it seems as though there won't be much time to visit before he has to leave again. Maybe only hours, is that right?

My husband leaves in a little less than a month and some people say I need a POA and some don't. So confused.

Nicky, no, there are extra days built in since the actual training time is 6 weeks after P-Days, so the holidays will not affect the time at the RTC. By counting 9 Fridays, PIR will most likely be 02/05/2016, but since your future Sailor is arriving at the beginning of the week, 01/29/2016 is also possible if your then recruit is placed in a Push Division and is in one of the last divisions from the TG from the week before.

Check your My Page.

Thanks.  It helps to know I am not the only one with these jumbled up feelings!

Absolutely not alone- my son was delayed entry beginning in January and just left for Great Lakes Wednesday. You will continue to go between pride, fear and loss. Holding on and knowing this is what he wanted and supporting him through it all! Keep the faith and read the encouraging words of the wonderful supporters on this site!

My son goes the MEPS Monday.  He is delayed entry so he won't be leaving until at least June.  But I am so torn up.   He is my youngest and until about four months ago he was going to college, but then he decided he wanted to straight enlist.  I haven't gotten over the shock of all of this and am a basket case.  Please tell me I am not alone in feeling so overwhelmed!
