It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Thank you
jujujape, it's pretty short. If you intend to attend, be sure the recruiter knows so you will be given the time to be there so you won't miss out.
Does anyone know how long the ceremony last when swearing in at MEPS the day they leave to BC
julieh, check your My Page.
julieh, make sure that the recruiter has put in a DAR for him to change ratings.
Thank you so much sheara71, it's so helpful getting information from people already going through this, I really appreciate it. Your son sounds a lot like my son! :)

My son also was in Nuke program...he was told it is elite, etc... he did no research, he is a brilliant, yet lazy kid...nerdy but doesn't have intense drive....that is NEEDED and NECESSARY for NUKE. it is an intensive 14-16 hour class day plus mandatory study hours...I have read other moms in the nuke group--kids are over stressed and suicidal. It's a 4 year engineering degree in 2 years. My son got his last choice which was MM- mechanic...he got thru 6+ weeks of A school, struggled in the mechanical part..had to make a 2.5 on a test, got a 2.48 and was academically boarded--3 master chiefs throwing questions at him, he answered correctly but wasn't confident in his answers and put out of the program. he was absolutely devastated and then realized he saved himself 6 years of major stress...he loves the Navy, and got ATO and is now in Pcola. Tell your son to hold out for what he truly wants. You got to want to be a Nuke and even wanting is still not enough. Its a tough program and kudos to those who make it!! I'm glad my son is elsewhere.
just my 2 cents
Question: my son had his swearing in today, and he took the nuc test. He passed the test and now they are really trying to get him to take the nuc job. He told them he wanted a different job. At first they said no problem, he can take any job he wants, but they are pushing him toward nuc. They said the first job he wanted is not available, so they signed him up for his 3rd choice. I guess my question is: if he really wants his first choice, should he hold out for it, CAN he hold out for it?? Any help would be greatly appreciated, this is all new to me. Thanks.
Edythe, I agree, my son signed the papers and it is a rush to get him to MEPS. He seems to be ready, I'm just not sure he has taken enough time to pick the job he wants to go for.
So we singed all those forms Friday and the recruiter started making all these appointments for my son to take his ASVAB and go to MEPS. I got no clue except my stomach is in knots!
