For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Mainly she should start preparing herself for RTC especially the run. I suggest she joins Navydep.com, you too MOM! alot of great information and other Future Sailors waiting to go. There are plenty of Sailors to offer guidance and assistance on the website. As for you, spend quality time with her. Maybe plan a going away party. I am planning a BirthGradAway party. My son turns 19 in june, Graduates in June and ships out in July.. Fun Fun! Hope this helps

Although I'm super proud, I feel like I'm still in disbelief that this is actually happening. He leaves for Chicago, from Houston, on 4.15.15, almost 3 months away to the day. I was hoping to connect with another momma who's future sailor was leaving for boot camp the same day. My son is thrilled at this opportunity. I can't wait to hear all his stories but know I'll be mending this heart in the meantime.

Comment by Navy brat/mom on January 12, 2015 at 3:13pm: Has anyone experienced their recruit getting the "I don't know that I want to do this" attitude while waiting to ship to boot camp? Our son is scheduled to leave 12 March and right before the holidays he started questioning his decision. He says he doesn't know that he wants to go, but he doesn't know that he doesn't want to go. He finally talked to his recruiter last week, and now has to meet with the Chief tomorrow because they want to drop him. I'm worried about what will happen, and him setting himself up to fail in the future.

I posted earlier in the "Leaving for BC in January" to see if there is any one that had a son or daughter leaving today from Jacksonville, FL. Praying for safe flights and that our recruits stay warm! My son has never been anywhere outside Florida other than a GA trip some years ago but that was in the summer, so he has no clue about snow let alone below zero temps.
