Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Comment by Vickie360 on January 6, 2015 at 5:02pm: Missmiami64- there are several Facebook sites for Navy for Moms. You will receive a letter about 10 days after your SR arrives. It will have a graduation date and you can join Facebook groups for that date. You will ask to join and then an admin will approve you. My son graduates on 1-30 so when I found out the date I searched for PIR 1-30-15 and found 3 sites. I didn't know which one was best so I just joined them all. Have you joined the group on here for Bootcam Moms?

Comment by Viv on January 6, 2015 at 3:37pm: Hi Everyone! Happy New Year! My youngest son left today and is headed to BC tomorrow from Jacksonville, FL. I suppose all branches are different, as my oldest in the Army, and wanted to have an idea of what to expect on the Navy side during BC. With my oldest in the Army there was a FB page that also allowed us to follow some of their progress during BC as well as kept us up to date with Graduation dates. Does the Navy do a Family Day? Thank you for your support and to all your sons and daughters serving our country.

He's getting better run times, and I have lost 10 pounds already. Its a great bonding experience! Hope everyone is well, and here's to 2015!!!

First of all- don't think you have all the time in the world. Go ahead and set up your Navy Credit Union account now. Go ahead and get the wallet ready now. Also, the best thing I did was to join the boot camp mom group 6 months before my son left. As I read about the struggles and questions, I was able to talk to my son before he left and I was able to let him know the things he might feel and struggle with. He has done great! Enjoy the ride!

I was looking for another idea for a gift for my son who will be leaving for boot camp mid 2015. . . anyways, can they wear a watch in boot camp? If so, does it have to be black or can it have a silver link band like this one: http://www.armedforcesgear.com/frontier-watches/navy-model-4q-serie.... . .

He is going into mechanics, but still has an opportunity to apply for another specific position in that field. I wish it was more specific. Not sure what they are talking about, this is all so overwhelming... Sigh :( he leaves July 15th
