It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Well - its a no go this month! The MEPS dr wants the area to heal - wants to see him in two weeks and will decide ship date at that time. :( My son is really sad and bummed right now.
please forgive me about the "recruiter not being helpful part". She is simply new at this position, per her words..." I am a scared mom. I do like her and she has been very good to us. I simply need advice from anyone that has the answers
Hi, my son has his MEPS appointment tomorrow in Miami to join the DEP. I am a super nervous! Although he score around 70 on the pre-test, he is scared to death for the exam so his dad has offered to go down to Miami with him. We know that he won't be able to be WITH him until the swear in, but at least he will be in the area. Does anyone know what hotel they use and if so, can my husband get a room at the same hotel even though we know he can't be on the military floor? Also, can he see our son when they shuttle him back to the hotel to sleep prior to the physical??? I am so confused and my son's recruiter has not been very helpful.
terry's mom - yes - Hurry up and wait is the Motto. I threatened to make my son's recruiter a check list, since they were always missing stuff!!! :)
Hi.. My son is trying to join the Navy. He wanted Nuke (he is a Physics major in college) and met all the requirements until he went to Meps. Found out his eyes are past the myopia cutoff and he is color deficient. So they are applying for a waiver but were waiting on his drug tests to submit the waiver application. Waiting, waiting, waiting. He was just notified yesterday that he has to go back to Meps because (wait for it...) Someone dropped a whole tray of urine samples & they all have to be retested. His recruiter said "only in the military"
Just have to laugh
