It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

DEP son came home from football and asked if I would make cookies. So guess what I'm doing?
Well he is gone. Just waiting for my call. Good luck to everyone waiting. It goes by fast!
My son is leaving from Texas.
Thanks for the support! dabrat where is your son leaving from tomorrow. Mine is leaving from GA.
My son leaves for bc tomorrow. I have cried just about everday the past week. But I am so proud of him. He is already my hero.
Debbie D, I have been here. My daughter also went through boot. It's one of the hardest things to do, but it's a very proud moment. At first it's hard, those first few weeks, but once the letters start coming, it'll be pride your feeling. We are technically in bootcamp too because of the lack of communication. It'll be ok, start counting Fridays once you receive your form letter with your PIR date. It goes quickly, and stay busy, but always keep a phone handy for the 847 area code! Hugs!
My son leaves tomorrow for GL. I am so nervous. I am so excited for him but just want to cry :-(
I just received my son's "box" from Boot Camp and my heart is heavy again. I am leaving everything just as it is (barely folded!) and closing it up for him to re-open when he finishes his time in the Navy. I think I will also start a scrap book starting with the airline ticket stub that was in the box and just take it from there. I cannot wait to get my first letter from him in a few weeks. He shipped out 10/6/2014 so hopefully it won't be too much longer.
My 17 year old son just went to MEPS and is now officially a DEPper, scheduled to ship August 11, 2015. I'm so excited for him but truthfully a little bit scared. He'll be training as a Corpsman with the goal of signing with FMF. SCARY! I'm lucky to have someone else in my SMALL town whose son shipped recently. I am so glad I found this site because I feel a little alone right now. My family is encouraging (Daddy is an old Marine) but they can't understand how I feel right now. It's great to know there are other Moms going through the same thing.
