For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Comment by Michelle on August 13, 2014 at 11:28pm: I have a daughter who is serving in HI. and this site was amazing for me. My son just went in Aug. 6. I just received a call from him that he was discharged today because of an accident that caused him to have a dislocated wrist. This is not something that I was prepared to deal with. I have an injured child, who feels like his dreams are crushed. I have no idea who I can call for information. Any ideas would be great. Thank you in advance.

Not new to the website, or RTC. My daughter has been separated due to a bad sprain that wouldn't heal. Just wondering what changes there has been since July 2013.

Comment by CB'sMom DIV 186 PIR 5/30 on August 11, 2014 at 1:34am: I have an only son in Navy in nuke pipeline too sheara71 Make sure he stays out of trouble, my son was DEP and sev lost their contracts . Exercise and stay fit, in bootcamp they do lots of exercise and pushups.

Comment by sheara71 on August 10, 2014 at 7:40pm: thanks CB'sMom DIV 186 PIR 5/30... its a long time before he goes to bc, so i'm trying to keep him encouraged...I pushed for military b/c he didn't give all he could in high school, and he wants to travel the world...figured the Navy b/c he did 2 yrs rotc...hoping the Navy finds the drive and maturity he needs to be the successful man I KNOW is in him somewhere!!!

My son is going through his things seeing what to give away what to keep ,packing his things. so that when the time comes we are ready for BC and then to A shcool. He still needs to do the Physical but that will be on Aug, 13. I know it can be awhile before he go to BC but he will not be here with me, he wants to spend some time with his grandparents before he ship out, then from there off to BC.

Comment by Sierrascrapper (ETN2) on June 29, 2014 at 3:54pm: Well...the day is now in front of us. We leave town tomorrow to take my son to the hotel for MEPS and he flies out to BC on Tuesday. Best wishes for all of you new Navy Moms and your Future Sailors. Remember to READ everything you can about this experience ahead. It helped prepare me for this next step in the journey.
