It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

HI! I have been reading the website for a couple of weeks now. I am thankful for all the information I have been able to find on here. My son finally received his final paperwork today. He leaves on Sept 16th, but they said that he might leave in April. I guess my question is it common for this to happen, or is Sept more likely.

You are doing GREAT! Keep yourself busy and start counting Fridays. I am still learning myself. My son hasn't left yet, but I am learning how to be prepared for this change in our life and how to be a GREAT Navy Mom. You have a GREAT attitude and that is the first step. We are all in this together :-D There are many others more experienced than me, but the least I can do is share what has been helpful to me so far ;-)

Sierrascrapper,
Thank you for your message.I am a newbie in so many levels.. New to n4m new to reaching out, new to communicating this way. New situations call for new channels of communication and I am trying. I figure if my son is brave enough to join the Navy... I can too can put myself out there outside of my comfort zone.
Thank you, L

My son left Wednesday Feb. 12,14. Got his call at 8:44pm. We had rehearsed the call many times and that was helpful. I find myself on the N4M site often getting information and support. My son shared this site with me a long time ago and I wish I had listen to his advice earlier instead waiting until the end of January to log on. Smart kid that son of mine. Miss my buddy so much that my body hurts.
Thanks to all you wonderful people who have shared your stories and experiences.

Navywife+3, my husband said the Navy won't move you and your children to where your husband goes to school. They will pay for you to move once he is at his first command. I hope this helps.

This group might be the best place to ask your question Navywife+3 ...
