It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

My daughter went to MEPS in December and signed as a Sonar Tech but has now been approved into the Nuke program. The recruiter's office says they only allow 19 women into the program each year and those spots have already been taken so she can either go in if someone drops out or wait until the fiscal year starts in October and be one of the first then. They said they can't give a ship date that's into the next fiscal year. Does anyone have any more insight into this? How likely is it that someone will drop out of their slot?
Thanks so much Craig! I appreciate your input. I just ordered it on Amazon and he should be all set. One more thing off the list! Happy Holidays :)
Lisa - The best wallet Navy guys like is called "The Wallet Jr." It is totally awesome. I actually use the bigger "The Wallet", but that one is just way to big for a new sailor. The Jr model is more geared for them.
It will be the best wallet they will ever have. Here is the YouTube on it. You can buy them at various websites. MAKE SURE YOU GET IT IN BLACK....
Bonnie - Go to this link and click on "Rating Card Info"
hello all...my son leaves for boot camp Feb 3rd..he is EOD...any info would be a huge help....thx!!
Good morning! I have a somewhat silly question - i noticed that they refer to a slim black wallet on things they will need to take with them - what exactly is that and where do i find one? I'm assuming it's something other than a normal bifold or trifold men's wallet. I'm thinking it would be a good thing to put in his Christmas stocking! I just want to be sure I get him the right thing. Thanks :)
We are now 25 days away and my daughter had her last DEP meeting today. That snowball is picking up speed at an incredible pace. The more I read the more questions I have, but going with her to today's meeting helped a lot. Her Cary, NC recruiters are AWESOME! They are really on the ball, and seem to care about their recruits. As I experience the time passing before my daughter leaves I notice how confident she is becoming and she is getting more excited with each week. Her only concern? The physical aspects of Basic. Tell your future sailors to train, train, train so they won't have to worry about this. DEP allows you to PREPARE for Basic. If your recruiter offers PT - take them up on it. Best of luck to all FS and Thank you!!
