It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Today, when my depper was leaving for school my youngest (2 yrs old) ran after him with his Navy backback. "here bubbie here! bye! bye!" When he shut the door tears rolled down my face, thinking of how hard it will be for her when he really leaves. I am thankful for 10 more months with him home...I know that I will have to make the best of it.
I posted a while ago about my son going to MEPS but having to wait for the government to open for a copy of his ss card. WELL he swore in today, and doesn't leave until August 12th. He is going in as a hospital corpsman (not 100% sure what this is exactly, but I know the basics) After a long road with MEPS he is FINALLY in! Now just to graduate HS, and keep busy until he leaves. I do have to say...I bawled all the way to MEPS, but held it together during the swear in. =) you know, so I didn't embarass him.
My son leaves out on December 4th. I am so proud , beyond belief .... but i have to be honest and share that i have literally cried for months . I try not to let him ever see that part. It is hard to know he will not be here for Christmas. Next month on Thanksgiving , we are having quite the celebration. We are having Thanksgiving, my deppers going - away celebration and my son's Christmas..... To the other moms on here that are even newer to this than I .... There will be good days and bad days but i have to smile from ear to ear when i think , my family raised a United States Sailor!!! In the Spring , my middle son wants to join the marines so if you hear loud wailing from Illinois , you will know whats going on .... Blessings!!! **any other moms on here with Sons/ Daughters shipping out to BC in December?**
Good morning, ladies:)) Hi, i posted on the site for those leaving in December , as well, but looking for other families on here whose dep leaves in December and at the same stage of this process as we are.. My son leaves December 4th for BC.... I am wishing you a wonderful day.... Thankyou!!!
To keep from being a total basket-case emotionally, I have tried to funnel my efforts into gathering information about the BC training at RTC, talk to all of the people I know with recent military experience, and have a better understanding of expectations in the Navy. It has helped me somewhat to see what my son will be doing in a few weeks when he leaves for BC.
He and I had a long talk last evening about what he would like to do and what has been considering. I am amazed that he seems so sure of himself and that this is what he wants to do. He is going in as a Gunner's Mate. He would like to check on some other opportunities as they come open, however.
We have always been close, and I will miss him so much.
