It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Thank you Sierrascrapper, the radio has really gotten to me quite a bit put me right into tears and an emotional wreck. Thankfully he hasn't been around to see it.

I can totally relate to all of your posts this morning. I don't know what's wrong with me specifically today...but I am an emotional mess and for no real reason. It must be hormones or something. But every song on the music system at my work has been making me emotional.

My twin boys turned 18 last week and I just keep thinking about them going out into the world and thinking about my FS and how he will be gone for so long and so far from home. We threw a pretty good birthday party for them just for that reason. We sent them on a scavenger hunt with their best friends and then took them bowling. We even had ice cream cake which we've never done before. Everything we've done since my son swore into DEP in June has been all about making special memories.

Congrats to your son and your family Christopher's Mom. What rating (job) did your son get?

TKs Mom... I'm so sorry that you have to go through these holidays without your son. It will be difficult indeed... Just keep remembering how proud your son is making you and think about how GREAT it will be to hug him again at PIR.

I remember the day my son came home from MEP's and said he ships on 11/13 my heart sank I am not ready to let him go and I'm still not on Sunday it really hit me only 1 month before he goes it went by so fast. I am so very proud of him and the choice he has made but not sure how I'm going to handle it. Won't be here for Thanksgiving or Christmas and the fact he will be in BC that I can't even talk to him is going to be crushing.

My son leaves Feb 3. He turns 20 in Dec. I have good days and bad days and he tells me not to worry. Easy for him to say.

So glad I'm not the only one, my baby is only 17, and will be 18 when he leaves. It's hard to think of him on his own.
