It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

My boyfriend left for bootcamp on Sept 23rd, so your son (ducks fan mom) and he might be in the same group...  I have a lot of emotions going on as well, so I completely understand!

My son is leaving Oct 2- today he is packing up his room and labeling the things he does not want his brother to take when he's gone ;)

We are going to miss him terribly- but the pride I feel and the faith I have that God will keep him safe will get us thru....

To Aaronsmom06, my son left for boot camp on September 2nd. I'm still having a hard time dealing with it but every day it gets a little easier. Like everyone that's told me hang in there and keep your chin up. Be proud of him he will be a grown man when he's out of boot camp. Be proud of yourself for raising such a wonderful son that's willing to go to the Navy. I thank him for getting ready to help protect our country.

Your feelings are absolutely normal Karinakk63.  I felt the same way you did when my son went to MEPS for the first time.  Even though I knew he was a healthy kid, I was so worried they would find something I never knew about.  I couldn't think straight all day long at work that day until my son called me and told me he was "in".  Just put your trust in the Lord and if this is the path that is right for your daughter, it will happen.

My daughter is at her first MEPS today and I am so worried something wont go right and she will be unable to join...
