For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Comment by bobnver on March 12, 2014 at 2:09am: My husband got the "I made it to RTC" call from our daughter about 8:30 p.m. (So California-- Pacific Time) they were about to talk a bit. I got a second call at 10:30 p.m. It was the scripted version and I didn't get to say much... but that's what I expected. I am looking forward to getting the PIR letter so I can book a plane ticket and also looking forward to getting a letter from my daughter. Meanwhile, I would love to talk to anyone going through this also... I am planning on saving anything I can (i.e. well wishes, photos etc) to put together a scrapbook at some point. That's my therapy.

Comment by Sierrascrapper (ETN2) on March 12, 2014 at 12:41am: Hugs to you Andysmom...start counting Fridays and stalking that mailman in about a week or so. Don't forget to join your PIR group once you get the form letter. Just think about how wonderful and transformed your son will be at PIR.

Comment by Christy on March 10, 2014 at 12:07pm: chanwife1-Remember it's 8 fridays til you see him again. Do you have SKYPE? Because MAYBE maybe, he could SKYPE you and baby on Easter..? My son was in GL for Thanksgiving and Christmas and got to SKYPE us both times. Hang in there

Comment by Mommamac MM(CVN77) on March 5, 2014 at 8:28pm: Andysmom, we went to the airport when our son left for RTC. We asked when we got to the office and they told us we could follow the van. When we got to the airport we told the TSA that our son was going into the Navy. They gave us a pass and we waited at the gate until he left. At the time of boarding 5 others asked us if they could get a hug. When we received our first letter home he had told us that he was so happy that we went to the airport. It was a very special time and now were so proud of the sailor he has become.

Comment by Christy on March 4, 2014 at 2:53pm: andysmom-Never too many questions! That's why we're all here. I forgot one thing, you will most likely be able to go to MEPS on his ship-out day. You can watch him swear-in. (I video-ed the ceremony) My son was out of San Diego, and us parents got to hang out with our recruits while all the swearing-ins were complete, THEN we were able to follow the buses to their hotel and hang out for a couple of hours. We went to a restaurant and had dinner. What city is he from?

Comment by Christy on March 4, 2014 at 2:30pm: andysmom, I dont think you'll go with him to airport when he's going to RTC however, after PIR, you may go with him all the way to his gate and wait however long til his flight leaves, You'll be able to hug him and kiss him as he's boarding to his next adventure....A-school. We met our son at 4am, at the airport, the day after PIR. We got to hang out for about 6 hours with him! Walked around, ate, and just had a good time. We took lots of pics too. The airport will issue a family pass to go thru security and roam free. OMGosh, feels like it was yesterday!
