For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Comment by Mary, Proud Mom of Nick on February 14, 2010 at 12:56pm: I' prefer bases that require good security clearances. I think when I was in Norfolk one of the battlegroups had just returned and there was a couple of days of back to back homecoming going on.

I know when our son's ship returned from it's last deployment the Ombudsman sent a list of needs to be able to be approved to enter the base.

Comment by kim ann on February 12, 2010 at 9:54pm: I was at a homecoming in Norfolk last August, and the reception at another base would not allow me on with a rental car at all. For the homecoming the next day, I had to have alot of info ready for them, plus my sailor had to give in advance alot of info, plus I HAD to be on a specific sheet of parents names, or I would not have had the opportunity to get on base. There were no signs, nor directions other than the guys at the gate directing. But....it was AWESOME to see! Outside of the rain that day, all day long...but it was wonderful.

The guards knew what ship had returned that day and we just had to tell them the name of the ship and they waved us thru. Then the base had signs posted directing you to the pier.

Comment by Wallstreet's Mom (Denise) on February 12, 2010 at 7:12pm: How does one get on base to witness a homecoming? I'll be on the Tiger Cruise, but my husband wants to be there to greet the ship and see the manning the rails. That looks so awesome in photos! How does that work?
