For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Must be those childhood memories of all the Sailors in San Diego. I have no remember os ever seeing a female in uniform! Of course that was almost 50 years ago!
My son just left Norfolk for the Gulf. He was just starting to like it there when he had to leave. He'll be back in the spring.
What does your daughter do in the Navy?

Within days of joining the "original" Destroyer Moms group, Joy posted that she was deleting the group. I was very excited about the group and volunteered to set up another destroyer group and transfer all the comments so the group didn't lose anything. Then Joy decided NOT to delete the "original" group. So here we are...I really don't know what to do about it......any suggestions?

thanks for the great packaging idea. My son requested the oatmeal cookies from Costco and I mailed them yesterday. It should take 2 weeks to get to his ship. I put the cookies in tupperware, but I like your idea better. Keep us posted!

Krista is this your husband's first duty station? What's his job and how long has been in? How long will he be at home?

Teri: Congratuations to your son on finishing his school. Is he ready for the fleet? You are so lucky to have your Sailor home for Thanksgiving! Tell that Sailor thanks for his service from a Navy Mom in AZ!

Congratualtions to your son on "A" school! Is he anxious to get to his ship?
My son finished "ops" on San Diego and then came home for 2 weeks and reported to Norfolk October 6th. He was in Norfolk for 3 weeks and was flown on a military transport to Bahrain (with 3 stopovers along the way). Once he reached Bahrian, he took two different helipcopters to get to his ship out on the Persian Gulf. He's been on his ship for about a week. He did call me from the ship when he arrived. And I got my first email from him today! He sounds happy and busy!
There is another mom on here named "STARR" and her son will report to Norfolk soon, as he's also stationed on the Oscar Austin.
Starr belongs to this group and probably other groups as well.
Keep us posted and feel free to ask questions, offer suggestions, etc!
:) I will keep Andrew in my prayers as well as add his name to the prayer list at church....

Comment by Squid's Mom - Rehne' on November 4, 2008 at 1:20am: FYI - Just a note about Cell Phone Overseas: On the TR group one of the moms told of her son having deployed in the past with his cell phone... not a great idea... his calls were routed thought up to 10 cell towers per call at a rate of $2 to $10 per tower. monthly phone bills were $600 and up. She said calling cards were a much better way to go.
