Welcome Angie:
Do you have 2 sons in the Navy? What ship(s) are they on? And how long have they been in and what are their rates? And yes, I love to ask questions.....lol

Hope you are doing well today! Did Matthew get an international calling plan? Just trying to be pro-active. f not how is he calling home from overseas? Collect vs calling cards? Any suggestions? It's going to be here sooner than I want it to be. Can we put this info out on the destoyer group for all to see as a discussion?

Matt did not get an international calling plan. He went to the NEX and bought some international calling cards. He'll have access to email just about every day and right now they are in and out of port fairly often (like 1-2 times a week). He dropped his new Verizon phone just before he left and cracked the screen and I understand the NEX in Bahrain is huge and they have every store imaginable on base and off base. So he can figure out what he wants to do about a phone. He's got a g/f here in Tucson that will want to talk to him 3 hours a day; so we'll see what he does next. I'm happy with an email everyday!
They have unlimited access to free computers in Bahrain and each one has a web cam. So I'm really hoping he takes advantage of that opportunity.

Hi Rehne!
Glad to have you here. After posting all the destoyers (above) and thinking there are about 300+ Sailors on each ship, we should have a big group someday when everyone signs up for N4M!!
:)

Hi Melissa... just got a chance to come on line again. Thank you for setting up the new site.

Thank you Cynthia:
Yes our new moms can sign up with either group.
I was happy with Matt in Norfolk and I'm in AZ! But Bahrain is a bit to far. I will feel much better when he gets there and gets settled in with his ship. I feel bad b/c he didn't want to leave Norfolk! He's not my adventous child, the girls should have joined the Navy!! lol
Thank you for your blessings...it means a lot. :)

Hi Cynthia and welcome (again). Don't know what we'll do with two groups but I've got other things on my mind right now. My son left for Bahrain last night and called from the airport. That's a tough call. Trying to calm him down and keep from crying at the same time. So give me a few days to get used to the idea of him being so far away from home...

Hi Teri and Welcome!

You and I will have a lot in common soon! My son just flew out of Norfolk tonight for Bahrain to catch up with his ship. This is his first deployment. I have a nephew in San Diego and he just returned from the Pursian Gulf (cruiser), so he's been able to answer a lot of our questions.
From what my son has found out, your first time on your ship requires to become "qualified". And it takes up the first 3 months on the ship. It usually involves helping in the galley, standing watch, serving enlisted or officers or even the CO. While they are putting in their 3 months they are also learning all the different systems on the ship.
If you come up with some questions, I'm sure all of us can try and answer them....
:)

It's very easy to "set up" a group. The idea for the group still goes to Joy!
Comment by Melissa (Tucson) on October 28, 2008 at 11:22am
Hi new Moms and Welcome!

I transferred all the posts from Joy's group to this one so we wouldn't lose any info.

What are you all sending your Sailors for Thanksgiving?
