I thought it would be great to get a group together of people who have a Gunners Mate in training or one on duty. I hope we can all give each other a little insight as to what is in store for our Navy Men and Women!!

Hello everyone! I am new to this group, my fiancé just graduated boot camp on Friday and is starting his first day at A School today, he has indoctrination soon. I was just trying to estimate when he will be done with school, I know he said indoctrination is this week and then he starts ATT for 4 weeks, which means he may start A School Feb 29th. My question is, do the 4 weeks for ATT count as part of the 27 weeks in A School for GM? Thank you for any help!!

Navymom0812, That is great my sailor never wore watches. Got him one after PIR an he is happy he has it. He wears it all the time. Enjoy your PIR weekend with him! It will be amazing. {NMH}

I got my son a G Shock watch and it is water proof to 200 meters.  I think he will like it.  I can give it to him next week and I can't wait!  His PIR is 10/9 and he will stay in Great Lakes for GM school.  :)

My son is a GM and he bought a G Shock also right after BC.He forgot he was wearing it and wore it in the pool. His was not water proof so no more watch . If he is used to carrying around a cell phone then make sure you get waterproof in what ever you buy

Navymommia, I got mine a G Shock watch. We bought it at the nex so he could pick it out. He didn't want one at first but realized that he can't carry his phone while in uniform. Needs to know what time it is when he has duty.

Ethan's Mom, there's a discussion above called "Gunners Mate...what is it?"  Even though it's almost seven years old, the information is still helpful.  My son has been a GM for close to ten years probably. In that time, he's been sent to Afghanistan twice, but that isn't likely to happen anymore.  Recently, he went to Africa for less than a week.  He's been sent for additional training in....you'll never guess.....Indiana!  Crane is one of the largest naval bases that few people know about.  In the middle of nowhere!  His career has had ups and downs, but every job has that whether civilian or military.  I think he continues to love the rate.
