My son just left this morning for Hawaii. He was suppose to go to C school in San Diego but they change his orders as well. He graduated from GM school on the 7th & got 2 wks w us here in GA. I'm not sure how it will work since his ship is also dry docked for 6-8months. I'll keep you posted as I find out info so you other ladies will have an idea. This is his 1st deployment & he'll be gone 1 1/2- 2 yrs :(
Hope all of you ladies have a Merry Christmas & a great New Year!

callcade, just wanted to let you know that picking orders dosen't always work out like they thought.  My son picked orders for 5 inch and got it at first, then they came back and changed his orders to verticle launch.   He was disappointed at first, but in the long run it has worked out better for him and he has been able to rank up quicker.

callcade - my son's ship was drydocked and he said it is now in the water.  He graduates from c school on 2/6 and then needs to report to his ship on 2/22.  We don't know when it will leave or where my son will live until it is done.  He likes this school because it is hand's on.  He also likes the weather there better than Chicago where we live.  We are going there to see him off on 2/17 - 2/24.  I will be ready for a sunny destination by then.

Thank you all for responding. Doreen it is 5 inch school he will be attending. I am worried though because he just picked orders for a ship that will b decommissioned before he gets out of school. Obviously when they pick orders there is no info for them on the ships. So just wondering what will happen...will he go to the ship and then they reassign him...or new orders will b given at c school. Anyway any info i can get from anyone would be appreciated.

My son is in San Diego for 5 inch guns.  His C school is about 3 months.

I think all C schools can vary in length of school...Tyler will to Crane, Indiana for a small arms C school...It was about 1 week...

Comment by Ruth, Gun's Mom on December 13, 2012 at 9:04pm

Since my son never went to C school in nine years, I can't answer that.  I do know he's being sent to Indiana for school for a month.
