I thought it would be great to get a group together of people who have a Gunners Mate in training or one on duty. I hope we can all give each other a little insight as to what is in store for our Navy Men and Women!!

J from O: your sailor should get liberty during that weekend if in at least Phase 2, so long as he does not have a duty session. I am going up to cook a Thanksgiving meal, after my boys have duty done. I have a kitchen unit booked.I also may have a few friends of the boys coming too, as I hate the thought of anyone not being with family or friends. So I told my 2 to invite anyone who has no place to go. They also have a "Adopt a Sailor" program where those in the Chicago area invite sailors who cannot get home and no family coming in for Thanksgiving. Hope this helps....:0}

I know the boys won't have leave for Thanksgiving. I was just wondering if they will have a day pass? We could easily go there if he was off for the day. MMMMM if anyone hears anything from your sailor about Thanksgiving day please let me know. So Barb, what do they do during the week they are on hold? Did he enjoy Indoc and Basic Seamanship? Thanks again for the info ladies this site is wonderful.

My son's PIR was Friday 11-14. We just returned home. What a wonderful weekend. Ok, ladies, what happens from here. He said he moves on Wednesday. I have seen on this site that his breakdown of training will be: A) Boot Camp (8 or so weeks)
B) Indoc (1 week)
C) SCC - Basic Seamanship (1 week)
D) ATT - Basic Electricity and Electronics (2-3 weeks)
E) GM A school (115 days)
F) GM C school (? # of days)

Will this start right away or is there a hold on all the training? What do you think his chances of being off on Thanksgiving will be? We are planning on going to GL if he doesn't get a pass. We live in southern IL so we are within 300 miles. Any information you can pass along will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello all! My son is on hold for his GM School in Great Lakes. He has been told that they may be on hold until January!?!?!?! Anyway, glad to have found this group! :)

The stripe colors at BC signify their rates, and number per rank, but they also are different depending on which dress uniform they wear: the dress whites or blues. Now that they are also having new uniforms (khaki shirts and black pants) coming out, the color stripes may change also to rates.

I'm not an expert on this, so I may be mistaken. I know when they come out of bc, they can have different color stripes, but I don't remember now what they signify. I seem to remember green or red, but I could be wrong. On GM's uniforms like the dress blues or whites, by the shoulder stripes for rank, there's a patch with crossed cannons barrels, telling you that's a GM.

Got a question. I am just learning about the Navy. I didn't know that there are different colored stripes on your uniform according to your job. What color are GM stripes?

You should take a picture of him in uniform at the same spot and frame them together. That would be a great gift. Picking pineapples sounds great to me. Have a great day.

Gina, how exciting for Stephen. Pearl Harbor would be awesome and I am sure the Vetical Launch System for tomahawk is a job many want. Good for him.
