This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in April...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of April of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of April (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have April ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in April, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

NavyMacMillie Good morning. My son left yesterday. To say it was a long day is true. We were exhausted- I attribute it to not enough coffee. Here is how our day went. Day before, we took him to the recruiters, they took him to the hotel. Our MEPS is an hour away, we chose to stay home and not spend the night at the same hotel. Too expensive. We had text and phone calls until his lights out at 10. ^am for us- we were up got ready and left by 715. Our son said he was up at 4:30 am  where they had breakfast and were taken to MEPS. We got to MEPS by 8:30 where they let us in. Security check similar to TSA so bring your ID. We waited in the waiting room with our son which was nice. There were 10 Navy recruits so with the about and the families they did 2 ceremony's so it wouldn't be so crowded - the room is small. You are allowed to stand wherever you need for pictures or video- Dad stood behind my other son and I in front facing him. The ceremony is about 1 minute long and then you have about 5 minutes for  hugs and pictures. It goes fast. They stressed that we not go to the airport to say goodbye as it would be too hard to try to find them etc. We drove home. When our son got to the airport they had about a 2 hour wait before the flight. We could have gone and been able to sit with him but in hind sight I think it  better we didn't. I think at that point his journey was beginning and he needed to be on his own. He called before his plane left we tracked his flight on line so knew when he would  land. He texted when they landed, then called when in the airport- they went to find food then to the USO to wait. We had another call there. He called when they were leaving USO to the bus- he was then nervous. His last call was 12:45 their time with the I'm here" It was very quick lots of background noise. We spoke over him telling him we love him and he hung up.That was our day. and now we wait  As for a heads up- I would say, have him do the run and you time him. If he can pass it now it may give him and edge to know he will be fine that way. If he's passing but barely, he will have an idea how much harder he has to push .  That's our story so far.

will be posting some information, and for those that have a Loved One entering please read these site's with them. These are what the standards are and what needs to happen in order to Graduate BC. I am seeing to many struggling and alot of heartache with it. so please take the time and read.

If this helps any, here is info and I will put the site down,

To graduate boot camp, a sailor needs an overall category of "Good (Low)," which means their average in three events must be 60 points or greater.

The site below shows how they have to score in order to pass. I think this will give some insight on why many are having problems. and this site shows how many of each. good information.

Navy Boot Camp Graduation Standards – Navy Fitness

re-posting these sites, please if your Son/Daughter has not left yet have them to look these over, so when the time comes there is no problem.

Navy recruits will have to pass a run test prior to boot camp start...January 2018.

according to this site the Navy is raising the bar, the navy at one point never had a standard like the Army, and Marines, Air force now they are implementing this. So for those that have Loved ones entering in please have them to look this over and start running and doing sit ups, push ups ,swimming also. if you can pass this beforehand then their should be no problems.

Good morning all.  My daughter will be shipping out on April 18th.  So excited and scared for her.   She is super excited, though and can't wait.  All of the information I have been reading is wonderful.   It is a big help.
