Latest Activity: Feb 16, 2023

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of February (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have February ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in February, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

I got the call from my daughter Kayla about an hour ago. She said that she was okay but a little scared. She told me to expect my "kid in a box" and another call in about 3 weeks. This is my second time around...my son joined 3 years ago and is stationed in DC. She is the youngest and needs tons of direction and responsibility. I just pray she does well....I pray I do well. It was not as tough as I thought it would be last night dropping her off at the hotel...the part that actually made me cry was watching her swear in this morning. She stood so tall (her whole 5'2" self) and proud...I think I had to be as tall as the jolly green giant watching her...I could not be any more proud than I am of all our young kids joining the military to protect our freedom...as well as giving them the most wonderful gift they could experience in life...

Hello ladies, I'm Arwen. My son Chris will graduate (Div 100) in three weeks (PIR 19 Feb), plus I'm a Navy veteran myself.

I can help you with a lot of information you may need and if I don't know the answers to your questions, I probably know where to send you.

One thing I do know, between now and the end of March you will have been through almost as much of a change as your recruits. And you will become a *family* in the best sense of the word.

I'm also adding a FAQ to the discussion forum with the most common questions I've seen.

Also, as you learn your PIR date, look for a PIR group to join. You will have between 7 and 15 divisions per PIR group. Since there are usually only 5-10 moms from each division, and groups are at about the same level of training, you will find better conversations among PIR groups than just a single division.

My son Jake swore in at the Bulls game last night. Waiting for the next update...
Comment by Linn (ship 3, Div 139) on February 2, 2010 at 3:11pm
Last night was Jake's final night at home. Dad & I went down and 'tucked him in'. I put his baby blanket across his shoulders and Dad slipped his old stuff toy under his arm and we kissed his forehead and said good night. He rolled his eyes and wondered aloud if other kids had to endure their parents like him. I told him it wasn't for him, it was for us.
Tonight we take him out for dinner and then to the hotel. We'l watch the final swearing in tomorrow morning then off he goes.
Gayle, thanks for letting me know they allow pictures, I definately want to take them.

Kelly-My son Jeff B is leaving from Cleveland. As you become a stronger woman, I pray my son becomes a stronger man. Feb. 16th, two weeks from today, a new adventure in life starts. I have that moon and stars quote on a garden rock I pass each day. I will be thinking of you, my son and other people in the service as you all become beacons of lights for us.

Shef’s Mom-Thanks for the insight. I know that I can’t changed either of my parents or force them to be more supportive. I’m learning to deal with it all. And move on with my life. It’s just turning me into a stronger woman.

Gayle-I will definitely be keeping in touch with you as I progress. : )

Janice-Thanks for the support! I’m holding my head so high that I’m breathing the closed. And I will be e-mailing you as well.

Jld-Bensmom- Thank you for being there for me!! It really means a lot to me. : )

Michellee-My chin is up now. It took awhile to get it there, but it is. And I’m looking forward to this new venture in life. Thanks!!

I’m shooting for the moon & even if I miss, I’ll be among the stars.
THANK YOU LADIES FOR THE SUPPORT! IT'S WOMEN LIKE YOU THAT MAKES THIS WORLD BRIGHTER♥

to Kelly - Chin up girl!! The fact that you made this decision reflects on your strength and character - we are here for you - I think you will be in the clas class as my son Eric.

Gayle - how are you doing - good luck to Emily - I am sure she'll do great!
Comment by Michelle425 on February 1, 2010 at 5:06pm
I believe we are ready to go - just a few more details to wrap up - thanks for the suggestion about the video - I honestly am looking forward to him starting his "grown up" life. I just can't imagine dropping him off that daythough - that's what make me cry - We made this decision month's ago - it was just about wainting for an opening - who knew how hard it is to get into the military!!!!
