Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

My son was originally scheduled to leave for Boot Camp on May 23. He was going in as an FC. They offered him a bonus if he left for BC in January. Once he signed the paperwork, all of the FC positions were filled. They have now offered him a position as an IT which he said that he would take. Now we are still waiting to see if he still gets to leave in January. Prayers appreciated, as he quit his job in preparing to leave. He is quickly learning the lesson of "hurry up and wait". Hoping he leaves by the end of the month.
My daughter left for Great Lakes on last Tuesday and I was able to go to MEPS center and be there for her swearing in.
Hi all! My son is leaving for meps and shipping out to boot camp great lakes on tuesday I would like to know if the family members can go to meps for his last sworn in to Navy boot camp. thank you so much.
Kimberly04 welcome to the site, if you have any more questions please feel free to ask.
To guesstimate the PIR date, count 9 Fridays after your recruit arrived to get the most likely PIR (graduation) date, but then know that it could be the week before if s/he is placed in one of the last divisions from the previous week and is in a "Push Division" (this happens more for those arriving on Monday or Tuesday, but even those arriving on a Wednesday can end up in a Push Division if there were delays in shipping recruits to the RTC)
Hi All! To give an idea of timeline, my son left on January 4 and we received his "box" yesterday (Jan 10th). I am eager to write and still do not have an address for him. I assume, based on what I have read, that I should receive that with the form letter in the next week to 10 days?
Hi Ladies welcome to the site, and Congrats to your New SR. (Seaman Recruit) This No News is Good News goes a long way, and the reason is because it will be at least 3 weeks before you hear anything. I don't like giving False info so I will say it will be one rollercoaster of a ride with Emotions/Feelings/Anxiety But that is what this site is for, their are many of Mothers/Fathers that are or will be experiencing the same and there is much info that can be learned. I will put a few sites on your page to take a look at and read on if there is anything that you need just ask. Welcome Again to this site. and by the way Great pic!
My daughter left for GL today. I was there for the swearing at the MEP center in Jacksonville, FL, then headed back home to Georgia. She let us know when they were on the shuttle to the airport and then on the plane. I received a call when the plane landed in Chicago saying she was on the ground. About 2 hrs later a text saying ‘they have us, I will call when I can. Love you all”. So, I guess the next contact will be “the call” that lets me know that she’s arrived at GL and beginning this stage of the journey. I know “no news is good news”, but can you give me an idea of timeframe where certain parts of the process can be considered “passed and complete”. Any others with Sailors at GL just starting today?
as far as immunization records they have that info at the Recruiter's office so paperwork is already sent. As far as handling how you will feel when it is time for them to leave you will cry, It is always hard to see your Loved one go, Just stay strong for as long as you can. this is going to be a rollercoaster of a ride especially with emotions. And know that is ok. I cried all the time I felt like I was in Mourning, first time for being away from my son, who is the baby of the family but yet a young man, there is no right or wrong on how to feel or be. It is a hard transition. any questions please feel free to ask. please join Boot camp for Loved ones also. Great Day Ladies!
