Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Hi I am Wendy my FS leaves the 21st for Meps the 22nd for GL. I've sent a couple emails to calls for recruits for phone cards and got no response. Any ideas or different way to contact them.
Hi I am Janet and my son Brent leaves the 15th for GL.
Hi Js mom my daughter leaves on the 29th.
Here is a question that might have an obvious answer. Do they take these DPOA's to boot camp or do I keep them in a safe place at home. I am thinking that I will keep them at home. I can always fax a copy to a healthcare provider if needed. I know I need to keep the financial one here. I know she will be given a HIPPA form up there but knowing my daughter, she will be so rattled she may not understand whats what.
KylesMom, my heart aches for you and your situation. I feel my daughter is doing that pushing away to me too, but not to her daddy. (Yes, we are married and living together for 27 years now ) She spends most of her time with her younger sister, who is only 14 months younger, and sleeping. I love her no matter what and I want her to realize that I support her and her decision totally. I just want her to realize that I unconditionally love her and will do everything to help her, not hurt her. I took care of most everything for her when she was going to a 4 year university. Now she has chosen her own path and she wants to take care of things herself. At least she has agreed to having her daddy on her POAs instead of just relying on her sister. Have you let your son know that you are just protecting his financial record and credit record while he is gone to Boot Camp, that you are not trying to be "nosy" with his financial stuff? He won't receive a check until about a month after he arrives at Great Lakes and most of it will be eaten up by the clothing, shoes, etc. that he is issued when he arrives there? He will be able to pay for everything himself again when he gets to A School. Does he want his credit to be ruined for the 2 months during Boot Camp? At least get him to reassure you that he has contacted all his creditors regarding his enlistment and either they will be able to defer his payments while in traing or that he has put them on automatic payment out of his checking account. I hope he has some savings there to tide him over or he would have to make sure he designates a transfer from his Navy Federal account to his personal account. I hope he has set something like that up, not just taking his recruiter's word that the Navy will magically pay his bills on time for him. I pray for you that he will be communicating with you again now in these last days before leaving~~ >Hugs to you./p>
Jenniszar and lemonelephant, thanks so much for your info and clarification! Now I will look into a HIPPA form. At least I have a notary friend lined up for Sunday at church to get the necessary POAs done. I am thinking we need to have them ready to take effect for the entire time that my daughter is going through her "active" part of her Navy career. It's getting so close. Monday, January 7th, she will go get her hair cut, then Tuesday we are driving her down to San Diego to her hotel.... Getting ready to write her my special note too. It's such an emotional time~~ At the same time, I am proud Daina has made this decision on her own to go down her own path toward a viable career and top-knotch training provided by the Navy--all while they pay her and provide her with free medical, dental, and educational benefits!! I pray she will be well-protected also during her training and service in the Navy.
KylesMom, just do the best you can. You will be there long after the recruiter--although mine still contacts one of his every now and then--and hopefully at some point he will see that Mom does know a thing or two, even about things related to the Navy although the recruiter indicates to him that you know only about things in the civilian world. Paying the bills crosses into both worlds.
Ummm...ok guys....try explaining this to a almost 23 year old who will not listen...and the more I press it, the more he withdraws and gets irritated with me....of course I will pay anything he needs paid, but trying to keep the lines of communications open is difficult when the recruiter shuts it down....just saying
