While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of June (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have June ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in June, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Good morning everyone! My son leaves for BC on 6/25. He was supposed to leave in May but there was a delay in his paperwork so it’s been pushed back. I’m so glad to have a bit more time with him though.

Patricia we got my son a calling card at CVS. it’s a Pennytalk one. I wasn’t super happy because of the per call charges ($.99) but it’s refillable so I can go online and check his balance and add to it as needed.

If your future Sailor has yet to ship, then be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....
If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so (especially if you have a recruit at the RTC) and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3) and then go on to Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

I have left info on some of your My Pages about your recruit's (or future Sailor's) rating (job/occupational specialty) or field and "A" School. If anyone else needs this info, leave a comment on my My Page with the rating or field and I will comment back on your My Page. I have info on every rating and field. I also have that info for the PACT programs.

Folks I am going to be posting some sites for those that are new as your Loved one. the Standards have changed as far as PFA. I will put the site down so you can read up on what is tested and what will happen if failed, this is something that needs to be read and understood from both the Parent and your Loved One before they enter into BC. So Many are not passing and this requirement needs to be passed in order to go on with BC. It is very Heartbreaking for the parent/s when this is happening but also a devestated feeling for our Loved Ones. I believe this should be started in a Recruiters Office but I cannot say that it is or isnt being done. So Please if you have a Loved One coming into BC soon get them to start running and meeting the standard not only that they have to swim and be able to pass the three tests, and the prone float is one test so have them start practicing. Push ups, curl ups, sit ups they have to do so many in a matter of 2 min.

Good Morning Patricia, calling cards can be found at walmart, CVS, Walgreens even best buy. Usually they can purchase one at the NEX at Boot Camp. But just make sure it is activated for use so he wont spend time having to activate. many get them online also, that is a preference up to you. Welcome and Best wishes to your Son!

My son is leaving June 14th for BC. They advised us that he needs a calling card. I am not finding any. Can’t someone help me with this??

I will be posting this site down this is very important the standards have change and your Loved One needs to start preparing and train. this must be passed to continue on with BC. Many are coming in with no training or fitness training. Please have them read this as well and start Running, Swimming, and doing the push ups, sit ups, curl ups.
