Latest Activity: Jun 12

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of June (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have June ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in June, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Hi Jaz04
Austin has his wallet with him. $25 in cash incase he has airport delays for food and drinks. ( Still don't know how he's going to get used to only 3 squares a day.) He also has his debit card.
TJ's mom: Yesterday was a great day ! He was in high spirits again, as he should leave for GL today ! I was up all night praying for his timely departure today, as this is so important to him.
love and smiles to all ~Sue~

keke's mom: Good luck to your son! Make sure you are on boot camp site to vent, ask questions, and get support. Just remember that these first few weeks are very hard....for him and for you...and the lack of contact is what makes it very hard too. But that gets better as the letters start coming. Start writing to him now...you can get an address from his recruiter in a few days. Check it with the form letter address when you get it and change to that if they are different. But he will get your letters! Good luck to all who have recruits leaving soon, or who had recruits just leave!

tasmyn: Please post about your son. after the Dr sees him. Probably better for him to be delayed now before bc in order to heal, than to go up there too soon and be set back in medical.

Well my son is off tomorrow, we have to bring him to the recruiting station around 2:00. He'll spend the night in a hotel in Boston, get sworn in on Tuesday and then he will be Boot Camp bound. He's home with his girlfriend and a couple other friends now getting in their last friend time. I can't believe he's leaving tomorrow. We have to go out in the morning and get him his last minute things. We had his Anchors Aweigh party on Saturday, he had about 80 people stop by to wish him well. It was a perfect day. Good luck to all of you who are waiting, hang in there! I'm going to go and have myself another cry.

I want to thank everyone here that has answered questions and given me their support. Just because Steven is off tomorrow does not mean I won't be back. I will try to help you all on your ship days. Good luck!!!!

Jax04: My son had his debit card with him, and I think I may have given him about $20. They will be given a voucher from MEPS for meal(s) when they fly (I believe that's right). They will be allowed to keep their wallets at bc, so if you want to give him a bit more money just in case, that should be fine.

TJ's mom - I am taking him to our states capital tomorrow and they will ship him to GL Tuesday.

Jaz04, When is your son leaving?
Comment by Jaz04 on June 6, 2010 at 5:30pm
Thank you that did help. We got the calling card yesterday and it is rechargable. I will probably just add to it every week. About how much cash should he have (he will be overnight in the hotel one night)?
Comment by diannep on June 6, 2010 at 5:01pm
Jaz04: No. But DO send a phone card with him...of at least 500 minutes. That is how he will be able to call you. You can get a 250 minute one if you want...but my son's ran out. They sell them in the NEX there too. The DEP manual is wrong on what they can have. I don't know why they haven't corrected it. Since my son spent the first night in a hotel with other recruits, he took travel sized toothpaste, and old toothbrush, and a throw away razor...leaving them all in the hotel (or thrown out). He used the shampoo/conditioner that the hotel provided. If your son is not having to stay in a hotel the night before, he needs nothing but possibly his cell (it will be mailed back in the box to you, but he can stay in touch with you until he reaches Chicago). Hope this helps.

I was told by my sons recruiter not to send him anything, not even a callling card. But all the papers I read said he can bring small size items such as unscented soap, shampoo, deodarant and shaving cream. Should I be out shopping before we leave to drop him off tomorrow?
