Latest Activity: Jun 12

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of June (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have June ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in June, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

TJ's Mom: My son is stationed now. In VA. Finished up A School in April. I'm on several groups because I talk to much! :-) But seriously, if I can help answer questions for moms who are not as far in the Navy journey as I am, I come on these groups to try and help. The DEP groups were actually suggested to me by Jessica....because she didn't have time since she is involved in many also. She is a wonderful help...in fact, the one who helped ME when going through the bc days, even though we were going through at the same time. She was a lifesaver to me....and I guess I would like to pass that on to someone else. I'm still reaching "up" to groups for help myself...and the Norfolk group has been wonderful to me...especially during a kind of emotional crisis time when my son first arrived in VA....they were the best.
I LOVE the boot camp group...because these moms are just alot of fun and this site moves so fast. Many of the others ones tend to die out.

After calling the recruiter today, as well as MEPS, looks like things "should" work out for monday. The paperwork is "there" and should be good to go on Monday. We are all praying for this, as Austin so deserves to get a move on. He has been DEP since November, and has trained with instructors and at the Gym everyday. Not to mention his runs and 2 mile daily swims.
Steph... Here in Tampa they typically ship onMonday and Thursday...
Good luck :o)

My son got home this morning at 2:00 from this trip to NY. I missed him so much I also have been crying at a drop of a hat. With all I have read I think I am going to lock TJ in is room for the next 11 days. Hope everything goes well for everyone in the next few days.

Keke's Mom and CurtsMom: Same here...my son didn't want me at his either. The sad part is I missed the 1st one too....he didn't really want me there or else neither of us knew I could be there. He was living in another city so I was out of the loop. Keke's Mom: Have a great party and send-off!
CurtsMom: You too!
Be sure to get on boot camp moms if not already on there!

I haven't been on the site for a while, it's been so crazy getting my son ready to leave and extremely emotional for me. The "Ship Ahoy" party is tomorrow, trying to get the house organized because they are calling for thundershowers tomorrow! Really, why??? We have about 80 people coming to send him off so I guess they'll all be in the house.
My son is leaving on Monday, June 7, being taken to Boston for the night, being sworn in on Tuesday then on the plane to boot camp. He has told us he doesn't want anyone at the swearing in, he figures he'll have said good-bye to us on Monday and doesn't want to go through a second time. I was a little sad that he didn't want us there but I can certainly understand. I have been crying at the drop of a hat for 2 weeks. Crying right now as I type this. I am really going to miss him. I know that I don't have to explain my emotions here because you all know what this emotional roller coaster is like.

Thanks for listening. I just know that I'm going to be a mess on Monday, just hope I can hold it together until after he leaves.

steph..justamom: I don't think they only ship on Mondays. If you scroll down to Awesome Mom's post, you will see where her son was scheduled to leave yesterday., but has been delayed until Monday. Unless different areas of the country only ship on certain days?

On learning the ranks, yes...that is very important. He will be expected to know when to salute at a moment's notice...that is a BIG thing in bc and beyond. And the more he learns NOW, the easier a time he will have there. Since he hates being wrong (don't we all?), he probably will study harder! Maybe he can print some of the info out and study it on the plane? He will be with many other recruits who are competitive and hate being wrong! I think the Navy will actually teach them how to use those two points in a GOOD way. :-)

Good luck to him!

I hope that you finally got some sleep!

Stephanie, Sue, and tasmyn: I hope all of these things are just "bumps in the road" and that your sons will be headed to boot camp soon. Keep encouraging your sons that it will happen. I know with the long DEP programs now, that all are ready for this to happen. No more boating trips, no more motorcyles....just strap them to a chair in your houses! And, Sue, I sure hope that they get all straightened out tomorrow so you all can enjoy your weekend and see him off on Sunday, sworn in on Monday. Seems like this should be easily resolved since it is on their end, sounds like, and not yours.
